Hello all. I am revamping my 7.2 set up and part of that will be replacing my mongrel side and rear surrounds. I plan on using Airmotiv A1s as side surround because they fit the space perfectly. I would like to use a pair of Airmotiv Vaulta for rear surrounds. Does anyone have any thoughts about these speakers in that application? The web page does mention using them as surrounds but nothing in the user manual. My question is if they would be effective in that role. My obvious concern would be that they would not be direct enough even though the tweeters can be angled 40 degrees. This is in a finished basement with a low ceiling of 6' 5". Currently a pair of bookshelf speakers are hanging from the ceiling and I am trying to avoid that this time around. Fronts will be T1+ and C2+. Any input would be greatly appreciated

6'5" ceiling? wow...that's low.
But, to your question - I'll ask another. Why try using the Vaulta for rear surrounds? Why not just use Emotiva's surrounds? They are excellent.

But my wife is 5' and i'm 5"7" so no issues with us. Just our tall friends! Regarding the Airmotiv E2+ Surrounds, I would love to but they are wall mount only, are they not? The seating position is not against a back wall. It's in the middle of an open room. The rear wall is about 11' back. The wall is irregular shaped and has three doorways so wall mounted speakers are a no go. That's why I am interested in ceiling mounts.

I have a similar situation, and I ceiling mount my Emotiva Surrounds but the body of the speaker is vertical (I made some custom mounts for them). With my ceiling heights, that's OK but at 6'5" even at 5'7" your head might hit them if you didn't pay attention. But if that's OK with you - you can easily make some. I just used some 1.5 aluminum "angle iron" and 1 side of the "L" mounts to the ceiling. Then, I ran some flat 1.5" aluminum downward...that's screwed into the other side of the "L" and has holes that line up with the speaker mounting bracket. Mark

Well that's an interesting option that I will have to think about. Thanks for the input. It does leave the possibility that they would get walked into. That is the situation I have now and was trying not to repeat.
Anyone else have any thoughts as to the original question of the Vaulta as rear surrounds?

It would be worth a call to Emotiva to ask about the Vaulta as surrounds. Mark
