Hey all,
Now that the XMC-2/RMC has the ability to route only the LFE track to a particular sub I have a quick question.
If you have your speakers set to small with a particular x-over set lets say 100hz, this x-over only redirects bass from any speaker set to small to the other mono subs and not the LFE, so what happens to the frequencies of the LFE track above that x-over point and below the 120hz LFE cut off? According to the manual they are still only directed to the LFE sub so I can only assume this means that you can not override the industry standard 120hz x-over for subs and redirect that to the mains?

As I understand it, using the Center Sub for LFE means ALL LFE is produced by that sub. Further, no other bass information is carried by the Center Sub channel, ONLY ALL LFE. So no frequencies are cut off or redirected from the Center Sub LFE channel, they are all on that channel. The other Sub channels will then carry only non-LFE content. Setting the Small speaker channels to a particular crossover point does not affect the Center Sub set to LFE.

I guess this is probably also what is happening when you are not using the centre sub for LFE only and have it configured as mono with any other subs. The LFE track as such must always override the x-over point for small speakers and play all frequencies up to 120hz to the subs. Seems like this is less configurable than previous receivers I have owned where there is an LFE x-over point in addition to the small speaker x-over points. Oh well at least I know what is going on and I can work with that. Cheers

Cheers If the Center Sub is NOT configured as LFE, then all subs carry LFE, no matter if there's only 1 configured as Mono, or multiples of Mono/Dual Mono. All subs will then be just subwoofers that carry LFE and any audio below the crossover frequency(ies) from speakers configured as Small. Just wanted to be clear about this and make sure I was understanding what you said above. edit: Here's a twist. If someone doesn't want any LFE, a simple way to do this would be to use the Left/Right-Sub channel(s) for attached subwoofers, then set the Center Sub for LFE but not connect a subwoofer to it. I've actually used the Center Sub set to LFE for testing things from time to time. I would connect a sub to the Center Sub channel to see what is on the LFE channel, and vice versa to check how the system sounds without LFE so nothing would be connected to the Center Sub channel.
