Just a statement I guess.
Recently found some JBL Olympus speakers local and decided I'd try them and then sell them. I got a good price and have always thought new tech beats the old stuff. Wrong...
The mids and top end are like nothing I've ever heard before. I can't describe other than saying amazing. Beats all the new and old tech I've had, without a doubt.
I'm now debating selling the newer stuff and keeping these. These are ridiculous.
Possibly the best speakers I've ever heard, and I've heard quite a few.

JBL had produced some really fine sounding speakers over the years. My electronics are current (no pun intended) and the EMOTIVA XMC1 is the focal point of the system. The loudspeakers? My main systems are a mere 33 years old and my surround systems are much newer LOL at a mere 26 years of age! Vintage loudspeakers are my bag and if you’re a fossil like me it makes choices easier from growing up with them. Bill

The series name isn't ringing a bell with me, which probably means they're almost as old as I am ( ), and probably have horn tweeters. Congrats on the find and catch. Enjoy.

Looks like mine, just a set on high range horns/drivers missing or covered on those. I need to reverse them before I sell. Get the low range drivers in the corners and the passives in the middle. It's no joke trying to move them around.

What's up j?
Still listening to these. Remember the La Scala mids and highs? These seem to have a lot of the characteristics, just sweeter and easier to listen to for long periods.
You need to come up and hang out after the flu gets done going around 😁, or I'll come back to Vegas.

Great design and sound is just that. The time line or date frequently has little to do with it. Depending on expectations and other variables, I have amazed people how good vintage really sounds. It doesn't always have to be new to be good. The popularity of vintage gear and speakers bares this out. You may not think so. That is okay. There are many people out there who do. Pretty fun huh?

When you have some time go on and switch the drivers around I'm interested in finding out if the sound changes. I'll be in touch Buddy talk to you soon.

The S8R JBL components that are in those speakers are some of the best components JBL built. I have a number of vintage JBL speakers as well as some new ones and the old speakers perform very well. My L300's are a very good speaker and compare very well to my M2's.

These are them, still going to have to sell. Physically just to big. Yours has the 075 ring radiator (silver thing), could produce a lot of top end.

Seems there's some out there where that driver is missing. Still scratching my head over the "covers" that seem to be present in some and missing in others where those drivers should be. Some have two like above. Seems JBL pages and people don't have much more information about them either. Also interesting with different lenses or diffusers, or none at all. I believe my grills or speaker screens are original but haven't seen any like those either.

I think the two covers are so they can put the driver on the left or right and create a mirrored pair, like yours. I doubt there would ever be two of those though, too much cancelation and comb filtering at those frequencies. The 075 evolved into the 077, that was about the same size, but had a slot formed with glass or plastic, supposed to be like a high frequency line source. Later versions of that speaker might have had one. Just looked and found an 077 picture. Cool old speakers 😎

I wouldn't expect two corner horns in each speaker but still trying to figure out why have two corner covers for each speaker. Very surprised at the combination of easy to listen to and detailed. I haven't been a horn fan either but no problem with these. Could it be the diffusers or lenses, I need to remove them to know.
