I'm currently using a Sonos Connect to stream music that I keep on my hard drive. Yes, I'm a dinosaur that doesn't use Tidal or Spotify or those services. I've tried them and frankly, I just prefer purchasing CD's or downloading and then saving the files on my PC for streaming.
Anyway, it is an older Sonos which they don't really support anymore and I was wondering what people's experience has been with the Bluesound Node 2i? I could upgrade the Sonos, but the drawbacks are that it can't handle files higher than CD quality, and there is only one digital output. The Bluesound can handle high res files and also has a couple of digital outputs. I want to send one output to my Bifrost DAC and another to the XMC-2, so I don't really care how good the Bluesound DAC is.
While most of what I have read is positive, I have also read of complaints about their software app being buggy.
Any thoughts?

I have the Node 2, previous iteration and love it. I did the same comparison you did and went for the Bluesound. No issues with the app.

I have a Bluesound Node 2i, it has been in service for about one year and I am very happy with it. I use android devices and my desktop PC as the remotes and I have not experienced any issues with the apps.

I've been running Tidal thru a 2i since April and love it. Haven't played a CD since, actually.

Thank you for the replies.
Apparently an updated app was due in June from Sonos that permits higher resolution files but it didn't specify how high, and it is nearly a month past June already. I guess I could get around the one digital output limitation on the back panel by getting a signal splitter. But the Bluesound does look better and seems more versatile. My Sonos still works fine and it has always been dependable but I thought I'd start doing some research in advance given the changes coming up with them.

I also have a Node 2i and I have been very happy with it. I use it with Amazon HD music and it sounds amazing. I really like their app for iOS.

+1 on the Node 2i. Windows app is poor at best. Anroid app is good. Sound quality is excellent for access to content on my PC as well as streaming from various suppliers. My go to is Radio Paradise at 320kbps as well as a few other commercial free higher res stations. Agreed, my CD100 is gathering dust since the Node purchase.

Probably a dumb question but I figured best to make sure -
Does the Bluesound app index the music files on your hard drive to enable you to put together track queues? Can it do this by searching for artist, album, song, etc? I'm used to how Sonos does it, which indexes the files in the locations you specify and then allows you to browse based on criteria like the artist, album, composer, etc. so I'm wondering if the Bluesound app is similar.

Yes, it will index by song and artist. You can make local Playlists, but it is not user friendly. I use MediaMonkey to create Playlists and export .m3u files for the BluOs app. The BluOs app for Windows is marginal at best.

I have the older version and love it. I have been looking at jumping up to the new version for a couple of weeks now and might dive in.
