I am wondering if I need something like a Blue sound node 2I to use Roon with my Mac mini with Amazon HD and portable hard drive (hooked into Mac mini) with 400 gig of sound files ? Would my Monoprice THX AAA dac and headphone amp work instead of buying the Node 2I ? Which would give me the best SQ ? Thanks Matthew.

Whatever you decide to use with Roon, needs to be an authorized Roon endpoint in order hear anything. If your DAC supports Roon, then you are good to go. If not, the Node 2i does satisfy that criteria. I have a Node 2i with Roon and I am very happy with it. It was the least expensive and most user friendly plug-and-play way for me to use Roon with my RMC-1.

Not sure if Volumo is a Roon bridge / endpoint OS. My Pi is connected via ethernet and to my Bifrost DAC via USB. I use the Roon app on my Macbook, iPhone or iPad to control what plays. Roon core is running in an Ubuntu VM hosted on my NAS; my music is also on my NAS and I use Tidal. Just curious... When did Roon add Amazon HD? Asking as I don't see it as a configurable service.

Thanks for pointing that out. Roon does not work with Amazon Hd. So that puts the kabash on my plan. I really like Amazon HD and not ready to change at this point of time to another streaming service. Thanks for all the advice.
