Been out of power here since Tuesday afternoon, this is one of many trees down near me ( this one 2 houses down, and on the power line)
Don't know why that's sideways.
So many streets were blocked, I had to drive over a mile out of my way to get home.
PSEG LI (our local electric utility) emailed everyone before the storm to tell us they were prepared.
From Tuesday night until Saturday morning, their phones were giving busy signals, their text app (in which you were supposed to be able to report an outage), would not respond, and their outage map was incorrect (listed 96,000 customers without power, it was nearly 300,000).
Then, after I was finally able to report my outage, they listed it as a group on the map, supposedly back online Friday afternoon. On Friday afternoon, we were no longer listed as out on the map, but we were all still out; my wife and I told our neighbors they all had to re-report the outage.
On my second report we were initially listed as a single outage. Finally, by Saturday morning we were again listed as part of a larger group , a little less than 100 homes, but probably far more than that. They also had the map and the app working, which said we should have power back by Sunday 6:15 a.m. Woke up today, and the app and map said by Tuesday 8:15 a.m.
They have changed the restoration estimate to 9 p.m. today, but I hold out some hope, since I saw two out of state power crews; one crew passed my house inspecting the lines, and is working around the corner (not where the picture was taken, but near where a different tree blocked the road), and the second crew is replacing a pole and some lines about 1/2 mile away.
I'm lucky to have a portable generator (gasoline/lpg), so I keep the fridge going, and, surprisingly, once I plugged in our modem and router, we have internet. Oil hot water, so I wired a hookup for the oil burner for showers. I have central air, and that's too big a load for the generator.
Right now, sipping iced tea, and waiting.
