I have noticed more than once when I turn it on that I get 3 or 4 loud pops thru my speakers like the PT-100 is going thru the process of starting up....normally I turn on the amps last but few times I havnt I get this.
is this normal? cause I dont like it but sometimes I have done it when I was about to sit down and needed to power up the amps cause they are not remote powered and all else is. I did just see boom says to leave the pt-100 on all the time. I just want to know if its normal or I have a defect.

I don’t know if this is normal or not, but it’s not uncommon in my experience. I’ve had this happen with an Adcom amp and preamp. Typically you would have the amps power on last.

A DISASTER....not normal. .....I’ve experienced “the dragon 🐉 “ a couple of times with both AV processors I’ve owned since 2001 and it is without a doubt, the most nerve racking and unsettling thing that can happen when you kick back to listen to tunes or “hear” a movie. Since I have settled in with the best processor/firmware combination that works for me without any kind of pops, I just sit there.......and don’t move. Bill

I need to know if anyone has this with their PT-100 ...if its normal for the unit then I will just leave it on and amps will be on last and off first like normal. if its not normal for the pt-100 then I will send this one back for replacement

No that is NOT normal. Contact Emotiva Audio Support for next steps. Sounds like DC being thrown around here hence the popping sound. That is NOT good. Please let us know how it goes. Best to you. And sorry about the troubles there.

Ive heard the sound before but not quite like this as its several different pops in sequence.
well crap. aside from that it works great. if I send it back I hope the next one works as well..
I have seen threads where certain pieces of gear had common issues or malfunctions in many units that had to be fixed. that is more what I was thinking

I knew this wanst normal but I really didnt want to believe it and yet it is true...which also makes me shake my head. Emo you kill yourselves with reliability in a market where you already have plenty of people who give you product a bad name.
I could almost send this back and get a Parasound again.

Emo is being nice enough to send me a 2nd unit to swap with this popping machine. its a good thing. I was on the fence wether I wanted to even bother with it at all. I was seriously thinking about returning it and never buying any Emotiva again.
I want this to work. I like the unit. actually do. its not perfect but nothing can touch it for the money. I can get a parasound Zpre2 cheap or even a Zpre 3 for close to same but then I loose the DAC and have to use another piece of gear to get all the gear to work together. not what my plan is.
the other alternative to this is the Parasound Classic 200 which is at least 2x or buy used and some people want too much for used. hard to get all the stuff I want for less than $600 used.
so the PT is the bargain of the century.
but really I dont see how this company can stay open if they keep having reliability issues . I have had 3 other units and I dont recall any noises from them, but my other equipment has changed . I have less involved in the mix now than ever before .

My guess is reliability is not an issue. Of all the Emotiva gear I've bought, I have only had one issue after eight years with an XPA-5 Gen 1 amp. As long as they want to, they will stay in business.

I call this “Digital Backfire”! It’s a scourge in this game, that seems to me, first reared it’s ugly head back when DTS appeared. If you did not read and popped a DTS recording into a system that couldn’t decode YOU LEARNED mighty quick. From then on, it seems this whole digital industry has been trying to learn how to “talk” to each other without popping. Of course that’s only one of many examples....this PT100 situation is yet another and a TON of them in between, where frightening popping comes into play without even loading up yet any source material.

Bill IM glad you at least know what I am talking about. The service guy was kind of treating me like this was my first stereo my daddy gave me and he wasnt home to hook it up right. was getting on my nerves until I think he may have sensed the tone of my voice and it was changing....
asked me if I had eliminated this or that and I said NO...its coming from the PT...
but anyhow...im glad I wont be staring at a empty rack no matter what this week waiting on this although there is a unit for sale that has my interest.

well....I have now had 3 different units, all PT-100 , and they all do it..almost exact..so it is in the design of the unit somehow either that or there is an issue with the 1 thing hooked up to it that wasnt hooked up before which would be my Tv Optical in.
This makes me wonder now if I should go ahead and get something else with more features and new tech. the fact that the unit is new and warranty is good ..I just cant help but wonder should I go ahead and get something else and send this one back while I can.
mainly just wanted to update this to say I have now had 3 and they all do it. 2 new and 1 used

I'm stumped which I'd imagine you are as well. Chad

I’ve seen quite a few problems involving the HDMI chain that included not only the cables (or even a digital coaxial or fiber optic), but even the HDMI receiver of A component soldered to the components internal board. You’re on a mission for sure.

lol .after 3 units I think its something in my system that is giving the PT-100 the finger. thing is never had noise in my system I use XLR where I can and right now I only have my optical out from my tv to my PT-100. Ive cut the system down to use online music and no more cd's ...
I dont know but I think I Have decided Id rather have a XSP-1 now. But I will say having tested 3 units I dont think its a defect. I think its something transmitted to my system from something going on in the PT-100.
it happens the same in all 3...turn it on...and things start up and you get 2 or 3 pops like relays or something. if I timed it then it would do the same every time. lol

I keep forgetting about it cause I dont even use it. I got my speed upgraded and havnt hardly used the cable. You suggesting the cable box is causing it? I know I read something about that. What is the solution ?
