Hi, I'm really wanting to try tube amps for my 3.2 system. I'd need three channels for the LCR. I'm thinking up to 50 watts continuous power would be enough. I'd like to stay below 5 grand for all three channels. That is, if recommending mono-blocks I'd like the total to below 5 grand.
Any recommendations for tube amps? And I'd like to stay away from putting the amps together myself [DIY].
Also, running multiple amps, that is, tubes and solid state........ does anyone use a switcher or are ya manually switching cables depending on your listening?
Thanks in advance! William

Two strong recommendations:
Black Ice Audio & Quicksilver.
Other recommendations that I've heard or owned:
Dynaco ST-70 Dynaco MK. III Rogue Audio Audio by Van Alstine Prima Luna McIntosh (probably not at your price range, though)

The best value in high quality tube amps would be Vacuum Tube Audio / VTA IMO, available assembled. Three 125 watt monoblocks would run about $4500.
See Boom's reviews at Secrets of High Fidelity.
Next up, IMO is Rogue Audio or Quicksilver.
All these are made in USA.
Don't overlook searching HiFiShark for preowned.

Would they be good for Magnepan 3.7's?

Excellent, I’ve run my 3.6/R in a 14,400 cu ft space to great effect.

+1 for Black Ice Audio
I have the F22 driving the Emo T2's, and tried with B&W N804's, and I like the results better with T2's.
Also, been really digging the tube headphone amp with my Senn HD800S its a nice match
Lots of great options out there, enjoy the hunt !

I too have the tube bug and appreciate the suggestions- thx Just sold off some "stuff" and have cash to play with and looking for a 2-ch amp; not ready to jump in with both feet yet. Should I try a tube preamp first?

Should I try a tube preamp first? My PS Audio BHK Signature tube preamp (actually a hybrid tube) was a favorite change to my system. Another was my MHDT Stockholm NOS Tube DAC. Both were huge musical changes to my system.

Should I try a tube preamp first? I know a guy with a barely used Schiit Freya+, several tubes, w/ 4 ea. tube savers.........if you're thinking a tube pre-amp first.

ONLY trouble with tubes is compatibility with a given speaker. I doubt any 'stats need apply. Some 'box' speakers have wacky phase / impedance swings in the lower 2 octaves (call it 80hz, or so) Good match is GOLDEN. Bad match and no bass or shrill highs or whatever.
Magnepan seems OK either way....The speaker doesnt' store much energy and generally has mild phase angles...... But IS of lower than average sensitivity which means you need to apply a bit more power, especially in larger rooms...
I'm thinking KLIPSCH Forte IV, which is very high sensitivity with a VTA ST120.....60 a side should be AMPLE, no?

That MC275 is one long running 'hit'. I think now up to mark VI ? Even originals have a following.....I think the MC275 started early 60s? The ONLY proviso? I'd watch out for revisions only made for a few years........ the good news is MC will service nearly anything they ever made......
