I have now used the TV / iPhone color calibration feature on both the Sony in my main system, and the LG in the bedroom. In both cases a comparison with the original (previous) settings, the picture looks warmer, but to my eyes more natural. The change on the Sony was less noticeable than on the LG, possibly because I had spent more time tweaking the Sony when it arrived. In any case it’s easy to do and you can accept or reject the results as you like. There’s an article in the previous post walking you through the process if you want to try it.

A security update has been released: iOS / iPadOS 14.5.1; watchOS 7.4.1; & macOS 11.3.1, here’s the description:

This update fixes an issue with App Tracking Transparency where some users who previously disabled Allow Apps to Request to Track in Settings may not receive prompts from apps after re-enabling it. This update also provides important security updates and is recommended for all users.

Just noticed yesterday's charge on my AMEX for this new ATV4K. Just checked the status on it and it's says, "Your order is being prepared for shipment." Hopefully preparation doesn't take long(it's a small box, so how could it take right? ).

I guess I need to follow you guys off the cliff, so I'm picking up the ATV4K/2021 from the Apple Store later today.

I signed up for Peacock today so my buddy and I could watch the Indy 500 Qualifications live, with no commercials, in 4K. It's very close to being there except I don't have to take a nap on the benches after getting tuckered out from the long walk from our camp site in Lot B, and unfortunately we don't get to eat the blackened and bubbly Indy Dogs that we order to be burnt on the grill.

Watching racing in 4K is fabulous!!

The new ATV4K2021 is so much nicer looking than the old 2018 version! Just kidding.

But I do like the new remote a lot better! It's thicker which to me is easier to hold and control. But when I pressed the Power button on the remote to see what would happen, it shut down the tv. oops. Forgot to disable CEC in Settings:: Remotes And Devices:: Control TVs and Receivers, Volume Control.

Setup was easy.

tvOS 14.6 Release Notes

tvOS 14.6, which is a free update, can be downloaded over the air through the Settings app on the Apple TV by going to System > Software Update. ‌‌Apple TV‌‌ owners who have automatic software updates enabled will be upgraded to tvOS 14.5 automatically.

tvOS updates are often minor in scale, focusing primarily on under-the-hood bug fixes and improvements rather than outward-facing changes. tvOS 14.6 lays the groundwork for the new Apple Music Spatial Audio with Dolby Atmos and Lossless Audio features.

Spatial Audio offers an immersive audio experience that makes it sound like music is coming from all around you, while Lossless Audio will provide higher-quality songs that sound exactly like they do when artists record them in the studio.

At launch in June, thousands of tracks will feature Spatial Audio support, and more than 20,000 songs will support Lossless Audio. By the end of the year, 75 million songs will support it.

macOS 11.4 Release Notes

macOS Big Sur 11.4 adds Apple Podcasts subscriptions and channels and includes important bug fixes.

Podcasts
• Apple Podcasts subscriptions are available for purchase via monthly and annual subscriptions
• Channels group together collections of shows from podcast creators

This release also fixes the following issues:
• Bookmarks in Safari may get reordered or moved into a folder that can appear hidden
• Certain websites may not display correctly after your Mac wakes from sleep
• Keywords may not be included when exporting a photo from the Photos app
• Preview may become unresponsive when searching PDF documents

About lossless audio in Apple Music

Here are some highlights.

"Apple has developed its own lossless audio compression technology called Apple Lossless Audio Codec (ALAC). In addition to AAC, the entire Apple Music catalog is now also encoded using ALAC in resolutions ranging from 16-bit/44.1 kHz (CD Quality) up to 24-bit/192 kHz."

"To get a lossless version of music that you already downloaded from Apple Music, just delete the music and redownload it from the Apple Music catalog."

"How to listen to lossless on your Apple TV 4K

What you need
Update your Apple TV 4K to tvOS 14.6.
Connect your Apple TV 4K to an AV receiver using an HDMI cable.

How to turn lossless on or off
Go to Settings > Music.
Select Audio Quality.
Select or unselect Lossless. Apple TV 4K currently doesn’t support Hi-Res Lossless (sample rates greater than 48 kHz)."

In some searching I found that the ATV4K-2021 will not be able to stream HiRes at launch, but will be at the 48/24 rate.
