Not sure I am the only one who suffer this one. But I have had absolute nightmare with the setup. My system is very simple : 4K HTPC connected to XMC-2 HDMI input (any from 1 to 8) and HDMI (or HDMI ARC) of XMC-2 output connected to Epson TW9400 projector.
There is no possible way to have signal to Projector no matter what order of component I turn it on. I had to restart HTPC 1 or twice, then unplug HDMI cable (from XMC-2) to Projector and re-plug several times, / and / or from HTPC to XMC-2 a few times then finally there is signal coming to Projector !
If just hook Projector to HTPC only then the signal is there instantly, no issue what soever, and no matter what order of component turning on.
I had the XMC-1 previously with the same HTPC / Projector / cables and there was no problem at all.
Am I missing something ?

As far as I know, the primary ARC output of XMC-2 is HDMI-2 out. Try that.

4K HTPC connected to HDMI1 (or HDMI ARC) of XMC-2. and XMC-2 HDMI (any from 1 to 8) output connected to Epson TW9400 projector.
This statement makes it sound like you have the projector connected to the inputs and the source connected to the outputs.
Connect your projector to HDMI OUTPUT 2 and then connect your HTPC to HDMI INPUT 1.

Have you tried changing your inputs to HDMI ver. 1.4? you may be having a handshake issue either due to lower quality hdmi cable or too long of a run for the hdmi cable.

Which on the XMC-2... it is. On the XMC-1, HDMI Out 1 was the primary. On the XMC-2, it’s the reverse.

I had a problem with my PS4 intermittanly going blank on start up. An online search revealed that if the HDMI doesn't like the handshake that it results in a black screen. Make sure your cables are 4k compliant.

I had a similar issue with my HTPC and XMC-2. I purchased an HDFury Vertex 2 and it works like a charm. I use the XMC-2 for audio only and the Vertex2 for video switching. Its a bummer to have to spend some more cash but all headaches have been fixed. Even through the drama of V2.0 firmware my system was rock solid. Only downside is right now the Harmony remote is not working with the Vertex 2 (issue on Harmony's end that they are "working on") so I have to handle switching via the Vertex2 web interface for now.

I had to use an Integral 2 for a while. I wished they would be an affordable one that would switch 4 inputs and 2 out. Also cannot understand why it isn't Wi-Fi or Bluetooth by default. Switching really sucks manually!

Wow, such an expensive solution. That unit sets me back to $800 in Australia !
I was manage to have a simpler solution. My graphic card has display port and HDMI so I use Display port connected to Projector for video and then HDMI port to the XMC-2 for audio.
I wont be able to have ODS for the XMC-2 on screen, but not really an issue for now. It just costs me another HDMI cable running from HTPC directly to projector.
I would have kept the XMC-1 if I knew this.
