Hey guys, I used to have GE Triton Ones and I loved them but unfortunately had to sell them due to different voltage country relocation. Now I'm thinking about rebuilding my stereo-HT setup and I'm trying to decide between GE Triton One.R (or the Triton Reference) and the Airmotiv T2+ for the fronts. Considering the fact I'll add either 2 12" or 15" Airmotiv subs, I'm wondering if there is any justification for paying so much more for the Tritons. I'm mostly interested in SQ for music and especially in the mid-upper range where many speakers lacks the required clarity and details. Has anyone did a direct comparison between the Tritons (either the powered with the build-in sub or the passive with an external sub) and the Airmotivs? (especially the T2+ or the T1+ and an external sub) Thanks in advance for the help.

drumace The T2 speakers are one of the best speakers I've heard. And by one, I mean it's right at the very best level, no handwaving. I've heard them combined with dual Emotiva airmotiv 15 inch subs and man they are just darn excellent. Can't think of a much better value or performance. Those airmotiv 15's are really solid. Not to mention the t2 can dig quite deep on its own. I highly doubt you'll be dissapointed. Now some people have noted that in some rooms (smaller ones) the T2's may sound a bit boomy. That has not been my experience, but your room may factor in. Speakers that sounded slightly better than the t2's were the Sonus Faber Sonetto VIII where they were a bit better and larger sounding in the mid range. Now the Triton ones are taller and therefore you may have a slightly "taller" image that is a bit bigger in scale on the Tritons.

I had both a GE Triton one setup (with Forcefield Sub) and the Emotiva T1 5-channel bundle (with a no-name old sub). For sound quality the triton ones and the T1's are *really* close. The tritons seemed to image slightly better, but that might be the room setup (they were in different rooms). My 2cents is the GE's seemed to be slightly better than the T1 (not heard the T2's). But that's an emphasis on the *slightly*. Are they 5 or 6 times better (that's the price differential) ? That's a hard call to make.

I thought that because the Airmotives have only one midrange, that would place them way below the GE T1 or the other models with 2 midranges.

Maybe I just have cloth ears, but both the T1 and Triton ones seemed incredibly, almost supernaturally detailed and in musical detail I couldn't tell the difference. As I said, the imaging was better on the Tritons. But the Tritons are $5.5k new, against the T2+ at $1k. For that differential you could add a couple of Emotiva RS13 subs too (I must confess I'm itching to try those out but don't have enough room for any more subs right now).
