Hi,
I've had my LMC-1 for well over a decade now. It's been good to me, but I'd like to upgrade it. I don't need 4K video switching.
There is a used UMC-200 for sale near me. In terms of sound quality, is it worth the upgrade? Does the UMC-200 switch between 2 channel and 5.1 more easily than the LMC-1, which lags several seconds?
Thanks, Ravi

Hey Ravi,
I've owned a UMC-200 in the past and was never really happy with the audio quality compared to the Sherbourn processors or the XMC-1, if you could find a non 4k version of an XMC-1 for sale with the 1.4b HDMI that IMO would be more of an upgrade, or even a Sherbourn PT-7020 or PT-7030, for the XMC-1 with the original HDMI board I wouldn't pay more than $800 though, if that's too much for your budget try and find a PT-7020/7020C4 as I find their audio quality is superior to the UMC-200.

Are you doing any video switching at all from the processor preamplifier or is it all managed at the TV for instance. I struck it nice with my Anthem AVM 30. I love the sound and the build is exceptional, and got for a song. Typically you are looking around $350.00 used or so.

Thanks for your input, everyone. I decided against buying the UMC-200.
I did find an XMC-1 with DIRAC and the upgraded HDMI board for $950, and I went for it. I should have it next week. Looking forward to some intense listening sessions!

Well, after a few weeks of the XMC-1 (with full DIRAC) I have to say I am extremely impressed with the sound improvement over the LMC-1. I've also upgraded to 6.1 from 5.1, and once I complete a basement revonvation it will be upgraded to 7.1.
I do have a minor HDMI issue where it doesn't sync the TV every time, but having it boot up on an HDMI input I don't use then switching to one I do tends to work half the time. It's annoying but pretty minor and I can live with it considering I paid $1k. I'd be really annoyed at that had I paid the list price.

Congrats on the XMC-1 and yes it seems 4K can be tricky and depends on cables at times as well, the Monoprice "Certified" 4K cables seem to work well for many depending what you are using, you don't need expensive cables just well built ones, there is a thread here somewhere with a list of known good cables to use. Here are the Monoprice ones www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=15430www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=24187
