This summer we’ve spent a lot of time cleaning up our creek and building (mowing) a walking path around our property. The route my wife designed requires four bridges across the creek, the first two were easy, foot bridges made of 4x6 and 2x6, we put each one together in an afternoon during the spring.
The third however was more challenging in that it needed to accommodate driving the riding mower across it, which meant it needed to be wider and able to handle more weight. Another consideration was that during the spring we lost a large oak, as I looked at it I wondered if I could use the wood for a project, and sure enough this is where it is. So the top decking is true 2x oak in random widths.
As usual, I draw everything in Visio first, that's my 'engineering':

Finally the full test ... mission accomplished!
