I have totem rainmakers for the front, rainmaker center, 4 ohms. I have a totem lighting sub and totem mites for the rears, 8 ohms. I have a denon 3806 with pre/outs. If i were to buy the Basx-a500, would i switch my receiver to 4 ohms before hooking up the amp, from the pre/outs or can the amp be switched to 4 ohms. Deciding what to purchase, buy a new mid level receiver and amp, or keep the denon and just buy a 5 channel amp. thanks

I belive when using the pre outs,it doesn't matter, its only if your using the speaker outputs on the receiver. I have intergra and use the preouts to my UPA-5 AND PA-1 MONOBLOCKS
Oh and welcome to the forum, you will have everyone of your answers, answered here,,this id a great forum with awesome people.

I KNOW I'm way late to this but I'd NEVER buy an HT receiver. some kind of Pre-Pro for sure, if I was a confirmed HT guy. which I'm NOT.
But still and all, the amplfifiers in HT receivers are feeble at best and go down hill from there.
Better amps ARE better. And will be able to drive more difficult speakers and work with multiple systems over the years.
I'd buy BETTER watts before MORE, also. Bass-X is to ME, a short term solution and not necessarily best for 4ohm speakers. A Christmas Stocking stuff with a bunch of hte PA-1 would certainly do for 5 years or more.
Leave the switch in 8ohms, no matter. It only modifies the amplifier portion of the Receiver, and has nothing to do with the pre-outs.
Unfortunately, EMO doesn't seem interested in making an of of say......125x7 at a reasonable price. Too much emphasis on power that people simply don't USE or generally Need.

Never switch your Receiver to 4 ohms. This is an FCC provision that actually will degrade your receiver’s amplifier performance. Keep it always at 8 ohms. Otherwise connect your pre outs to the amplifier of choice and perform the room correction process and enjoy.
