Anyone have a suggestion about this issue: On one of my XPA 5's there is a low level screeching sound coming through the speakers while the amp is running. Then, when I power it off, after about 5-10 seconds there is a very loud screeching on only one of the channels like the capacitor is discharging. (My other XPA 5 has had zero issues since it was purchased many years ago.) Is it worth servicing? Is it something one can easily fix? Are there schematics anywhere? Thanks, -John

I have the ‘screech on power off’ in 2 of my channels - but only if I use balanced inputs for them. I switched those 2 to unbalanced and it solved the issue. I relegated them to the surrounds in a 7.1 setup, which typically has the least amount of info/least used.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I noticed changing from balanced to unbalanced reduced it too, I should have put that in my original post. But, even with unbalanced, there is still some noise when running.

Call Emotiva. They should be able to service the amp for a fixed price. They may also offer you a trade-in value. It will be easier to make a decision on what to do once you have that information.

Thanks for the advice.
I now have an issue with my other XPA 5! It just started randomly producing very short crackle/pop sounds across seemingly all 5 channels...at different times. I will hear a pop/crackle in the center, and then in the left a short bit later. Then it will happen in one the surrounds. (I know it's not the processor/cables, etc as when I put my 20 year old Rotel amp in the system, the popping went away!) Unfortunately I have had this amp for around 10 years now, so I am on the hook for the repairs.
Any suggestions as to what the usual fixes would be for these problems I described so I can at least have a starting point to tell the repair shop techs when I bring the amp in for repair?

I agree in contacting support for this. If this is a Gen 1 or 2 XPA it is most likely capacitors issue, but you want it checked out completely.

Other than a fuse, I’ve never owned an amplifier with end user serviceable parts….Should make the answer easy, however painful.
