I am looking for a stereo preamp or integrated amp that has a processor loop or tape monitor output to send my fixed level signal to a headphone amp or possibly my Denon AVR. My XSP-1 had one but I sold it when I downsized to my current retirement home. I was thinking I would get a PT-100 or TA-100 but they don't have one ! Screws up my plan. I was looking at used equipment and noticed that a UMC-200 has a mix down two channel output. Sounds like the same thing. What is the SQ on the UMC ? Don't need it for video. I need to stay within a $400 budget at most. Would like to buy new. Not sure of SQ on the entry level Yamaha AS-301 or the Denon PMA-600. Any thoughts ? Or should I get a used Cambridge or Rotel preamp or integrated amp ? I have two sets of speakers I can use. Tekton Mini-Lore or a very nice sounding DIY bookshelf speaker that I had custom built for me by an engineer friend. Both are easy to drive. I have an extra Adcom Amp that can be used if I end up buying a preamp.. The SQ needs to be good. I understand at a $400 budget I am not going to get excellent sound. Since my wife retired I now mainly use headphones. System gets used only about six hours a week with speakers . Thanks, Matthew

I have what is ABOUT a 40 year old KENWOOD KA-7100 integrated amp. Full tape monitor switching so you can go from A->B or reverse, montitor either or listen to something else entirely,
If I put this amp back in service, I'd REPLACE the PS caps first.....

Well the TA-100 has RCA outputs which of course are not fixed but controlled by the TA-100 volume, if you use it to power the speakers you could connect your headphone amp to the RCA pre-out and adjust volume on each accordingly, easiest would be turn the volume up on the headphone amp and use the TA-100 volume for adjustment.

Got it......and replied.
I really wish i DID have a use for this amp. My 'garage' system is a Parts Express DTA-1 and some 'found' speakers. Certainly adequate for that use but nothing exotic.
There is no space outside for the Kenwood.....

check out the thread 'Old School' for a pic of the above referenced Kenwood. A real blast from the past. And not bad sounding, at all, considering its 60x2 rating, which tests show it exceeded handily.

A Parasound P3 preamp may be found within budget and has both fixed and variable outputs..... Sound quality is very good and this piece was made for several years so in decent supply.... New cost I think was 800$ so you should be able to get one within budget. I don't know anything about THIS, but the price and connectivity are right! www.usaudiomart.com/details/649690455-parasound-pld-1500-line-drive-preamplifier/US Audio Mart OR CanukAudio Mart are good sources. As is Audiogon and perhaps Hifi Shark.
