I use a smart controller to sequence power to my system, but the UMC-1 will only go into standby. Is it possible to remotely power it on? I don't think it is possible to remotely power on (as per your smart controller) ANY device that has a standby mode and is expected to be turned on as an additional step. Your power controller just supplies wall power to the UMC-1, not an "on command". To put it another way, if when you plug a device directly into your wall socket, that device goes into "standby", then no can do.
There are special power strips that purport to allow downstream devices to be powered up after the "master" device is powered up, again in the same sense of supplying wall power to the downstream devices, but they can't magically turn those devices from standby to fully on. Some of these master-slave power strips are iffy as they may not detect a sufficient difference in power from the master unit, from their standby mode to on state. I've used a few of these, and some have an adjustment for the threshold.

Thanks, that's what I expected. I get it's an older unit, but it supports triggers for other equipment, which is why I find it so odd that it has no trigger-in for itself. Meh. It's got a lot of life left. I may wire something into the power switch circuit. Might even give it Alexa control while I'm at it. Thanks again for the confirmation.

I checked the lineage of UMC-1, 200, MC-700 and XMC-2 which I all still have and none of them have trigger-in. I suspect the AVP units are expected to be the master units from which others are triggered, though it's certainly conceivable to come up with reasons why something else being turned on might be considered a master which then turns on the AVP, amps, etc. downstream.
I'm not sure what you're contemplating re some rewiring but it ultimately has to send a "go ON from standby" software command to the box, not just turn external power on. UMC-1 being well out of warranty I suspect you're not worried about that issue
I don't remember if anyone implemented a cell-phone app to operate the UMC-1 (there was an app or two for some boxes), but that's a less invasive approach - still requires you to send (speak) the signal.
I think other folks probably went the route of programming their Harmony-type remotes to sequence each box on (and fully on). I've never had a Harmony so don't know how successful that might be.
