Hi all I have an issue with an original XMC-1 that hasn't had any of the updates installed. The Tuner has stopped working (this is an important area for my partner) sound, as in static can be heard through the speakers and everything else works very well. Reason for no updates I am in Adelaide South Australia, Australia and am not an electronics person so I haven't tried to get or install updates in case I stuffed it up. If there are any of you in Australia that can assist that would be great. If not then any assistance from anyone would be appreciated Cheers David

Once downloaded to a thumb drive, slap it into the front panel and you’ll be good to go! Bill

Thanks Bill, will that fix the issue of the Tuner not working Original firmware for a six year old XMC is not a good thing..... there is much IMHO to be gained with 4.1. That being said, I believe it’s doubtful your radio issue is related. It SOUNDS like a fundamental antenna/connection issue. Check everything about your antenna connections before updating the unit. What kind of antenna connection are you using? Bill

Hi Bill Using the standard am and fm connections that came with the unit, have checked connections and replugged back in, we are getting static and one station unusual in that the station is 729 but we pick it up on 792 very very faint no other station works 729 would be 5CL (Radio National) I assume, and would be one of the most powerful transmitters in the area, so may be faintly received even without any antenna connections. Check that the settings for tuning interval haven't somehow changed - In the settings menu (Setup Advanced > Tuner Region) you should have Europe/Asia selected. This will set the correct interval for frequencies for Australia or 9khz for AM (729, 738, 747, 756, 765, 774 etc) and FM of 0.2mhz on the odd intervals (so 105.1, 105.3, 105.5 etc) Hope that gives you something to try!

Hi Timster
I have checked the settings and still on Asia/Europe, thanks for that idea. I have a support call into Emotiva just waiting on a email back. I was hoping that it would be an easy fix else I probably will have to send back to Home base at Emotiva.
Cheers David

Cheers David If everything else is working on the XMC and it can't be resolved without sending back to the US, I personally would be inclined to buy an external tuner, maybe even 2nd hand off ebay, and plug it into one of the analogue inputs (if you have one spare). Probably way cheaper that the shipping/repair. Maybe I should check my XMC, never have used the tuner!

Thanks Timster that may be the choice, pity though it has been working very well up to now even without any updates and the sound quality even has the other half playing more music Cheers David

Hi Timster After reading a few of the other issues with the XMC-1 I tried turning the power off and behold I now have a tuner back. What would cause this to occur, did something just get caught up and required a 'kick' Cheers David

Basically the whole thing is a computer with custom programming to do it's thing. Sometimes a reboot is required. I always have mine completely shut off, not in fast (video on standby) start-up mode, so basically mine reboots every time I start it up. The penalty for that is it takes about a minute to start up, which doesn't worry me. Good to hear it's sorted out for you!

If you want a even better quality fm signal consider chucking the afterthought antennae you got with the xmc1 box and running some shielded 75ohm cable to a proper antennae that is aligned for low multipath on your roof [if your a long way from your local transmitters ] Its even helped in Newcastle
