I have a 7.2 with T2, C2 and E1. The T2 have been used as surrounds with the E1 as rear in 7.1. my mains have been Martin Logan Request. I now have a seperate all McIntosh 2 channel setup and so I prefer to have a matched set of speakers in the theater room. What's currently available is the e2. The question is should I use the E2 on the side or in the Rear with the other location being served by the E1. Curious... why'd they stop making the E1... many prefer the monopole approach all the way around.

E2 on the sides. The greater dispersion is more useful as a side speaker.
Any chance of going with an in-wall speaker instead? Martin Logan IW.

Selling the ML to a friend who is buying his first house and wants a real set of speakers to get started in the hobby. I'll probably throw in an extra Crown amp I have sitting around just to get him started. The ML are damn near 30 years old. They were recoated about 10 years ago. Perfectly functional- I still use them daily. I told him I'd let him have them for what the E2's cost or just get me the E2's. To what you asked- no- couldn't do in-walls there- not enough depth- it's a converted garage and that is on the wall that went where the garage door used to be and it's damn near drywall on brick- no depth at all.

oh. And thanks for the response. I've asked around a bit and that seems to be the consensus. I never had a dipole/bipole before (aside from the ML, if you will) so it just wasn't something I had ever given much thought to.
