Hi!
I am in the proces going from a 7.2.4 to a 9.1.6 setup in my dedicated theater room, that means one sub only. I have 2 to choose from one Klipsh R-12SW or a Sunfire XTEQ 12 wich one would you guys use? Movies only.
Frontspeakers are a set of Snell C/V set to small at crosover 80Hz
Thanks.

Well, that is almost like asking which woman to marry 😄
Just based on the specs, I would go with the Sunfire. The Klipsch might be kind of okay as an entry level sub for music. For home theater duty, especially in a single sub setup, the Klipsch has neither the extension nor the power.
If cost, size and weight are factors, it is not a apple to apple comparison, though.

Between the two choices it would seem obvious to choose the Sunfire if the specs I read are accurate. How many cubic feet of air space in the room?
What subwoofers were part of the 7.2.4 config?

Hi!
Currently using them both, in dual mono mode.
The room is L 19,72 (6,011 Meter) W 11,79(3,594 Meter) H 7,25 (2,21 Meter)
I am asking because i read somewhere that some subs are better for music, and with the sunfire only i have bass all over my house just not that much where i sit, when watching movies. But then again i never had the option to use lfe only.
Thanks

For more even bass response throughout your room you would need to run minimum two subs and placement is also key in achieving this, there are many videos to watch on this subject.

I agree with creimes... It sounds to me like your MLP might be located in a room null. As he suggested, the only way to treat this is by using multiple subwoofers properly located within your room. But what's more, just throwing more subwoofers into the mix won't fix the problem. In most cases, you can't simply "power" your way through a null. You would likely need a MiniDSP and some advanced knowledge of REW to adequately address the problem. Here is a LINK to a good video that explains the process in great detail. This is "Part 2" of a two part series, so make sure you watch part one as well. Some would take this approach as "too much work" and simply move their MLP either forward or back a few feet and leave the lack of bass to a guest who wouldn't know the difference. But with a little time and a little effort, you " can" achieve better results for yourself and an awesome experience for everyone in the room. Hope this helps... EDIT: HERE is a link to what I referred to as "Part 1" of the video referenced above.

The real answer is which of the two is best suited to your existing loudspeakers. The processor itself in the mix doesn’t matter. If I had to make a choice for no other reason I would go With the Sunfire. The other thing I never mind pointing out is that the subwoofer doesn’t care whether you’re playing music or movies. Frequency response is frequency response end of story. A competent Powered Subwoofer handles both. What is perceived as musicality it’s just another subjective issue. Bill
