I am wondering why there are only floor design style speakers. In the 80's there was a speaker with say a three way 8-10-12-15" woofer, 3"mid, 1" tweeter, it could be placed anywhere. I am wondering why did that design go away? I want that design.. Always liked that design. I would imagine if Emotiva made that design now it would be a great seller. I would be the first to buy!

I had a speaker like that back in the 80's....Infinity RS5b. Large speaker that still needed speaker stands. I much prefer floor standing speakers now.

JBL and Klipsch still make those form factor speakers. Todays floor standing speakers just integrate the speaker stands for you. Granted, there are very few 10 or 12" woofer floor standing speakers today (aside from Tekton), but there was not the use of subwoofers in the 70's and 80's like there is today.

Standard BBC design. Still being made. Look at Harbeth or JBL, off the top of my head.

Back in the 80's, my buddy had some Cerwin-Vegas with 15" woofers, they rocked! He even put them on the back seat of car for a while Good luck in your quest.

Nice but an outrageous pricetag. The 70's design didn't cost this much.. Thanks though!

Beginning to think it a conspiracy to make people scale down and settle for less. First the prices are outrageous for speakers with large woofers. $2000.00 per speaker and that the lowest price! Then availability now you have to search other countries to get the 70's style speaker with elaborate costs. That's why I made this thread hoping maybe Emotiva would make a pair of 70 style speakers for us who like them. Forget the 6 1\2 speakers or towers.. Give me a 12-15" woofer with a nice cabinet.. I would pay $1000.00 - $1200.00 for a pair but no more than that..

Tekton has the perfect SET 12IN woofers for 1900. Pair Yea its a shame the prices nowadays, once weather gets nice the garage sales are probably best bet. I was in a local vinyl store a week ago and they had quite a few old speaker sets in there for sale, but its crazy what they want.

Interesting to note that most of the proposals here are on large stands making them as big as floor standers anyway
