I'm building my home theater and about to order cabling for the network and speakers. I'll be running all 12 ga speaker wire, probably Monoprice, unless I find a more cost-effective alternative. For the network, what is recommended for the Cat cabling from the modem/router; Cat-5, 6, etc.? This will be installed in a wall so I'd like to make it as futureproof as I can based on current technology and practice. Thanks for your advice! Cheers! Chuck

Chuck View AttachmentView Attachment12 ga speaker wire from Monoprice should be just fine. If you are using connectors such as banana plugs, make sure they are on well. I would go Cat-6 minimum for future proofing and you can get that through Monoprice also, terminated by length, or terminate your own.

For the network, what is recommended for the Cat cabling from the modem/router; Cat-5, 6, etc.? Check Monoprice for inwall rated Cat7. I needed 70 footers and purchased sixteen pre-terminated 100 footers and left all the slack in the attic. I got the 100 footers on sale for $19.95 each, but they were all grey, the 100 foot color cables were $40 each. I just pre-label each end before I ran them. I also purchase AMPCOM CAT7 RJ45 Inline Coupler Keystone Jack, Shielded Female to Female- 10 Pack from Amazon.
