Hi, I have a XPA-2 gen 1 for many years. I have this setup from the beginning, ..... and nothing has changed since. At first the blue LEDs strip moved with the music as expected. Recently I noticed the LEDs stop moving, but sound output still normal. From my research on Emotiva forum, many owners had the same issue, and the fix was to replace the board (carried out by owners). I don’t mind send in the amp, but it was so heavy!! (yesterday I almost tipped over trying to lift it up!!), plus I no longer have the original box...... it will be no easy task to ship it in... Im trying to find the easy fix for it. Does anybody know what was wrong?? what specific parts need to be replace? where to buy the parts?? any instruction?? thank you

Did you check to make sure the meter switch was on the back was ON? You may have inadvertently switched it.

With Cogito, check that switch on the back. As you may check connections, it is easy to bump that switch.

Contact them by calling their phone number. In the US I think the replacement box is about $50. Not sure how much it is outside US.

Reset power button, back and forth.... All the external factors were eliminated. It is the amp issue. Im trying to figure out the most economically way to fix it

Even if I buy the box from Emotiva, with the weight of the unit, the shipping cost (>70lbs) doesnt make sense. Im trying to fix it the most economically way. Im good with electronics.... I dont mind buying replacement board, parts from Emotiva and replacing them myself. From my research on this forum, many members had this issue. In the past, Emotiva sent them the "LED board" to replace themselves.... From this forum, it seems to be the "board, chips" that desoldiered, and need to be replaced.....

UPDATE: I did research on this forum, and many members claimed Emotiva sent them the replacement CHIPs, and that fixed the issue. I contacted Emotiva, and after lengthy emails back and ford.... Emotiva refused to sell just the Chip... instead they wanted to sell the whole pcb board for ~ $150 (without warranty?!). Noted: I opened up the front panel, and the chip is just plugged into the socket (not soldered). I can easily pull out the old chip, and plug in the the new one... but no, Emotiva wanted to sell the whole pcb board!!. Just want to get it done, I ordered the damn part. Very disappointed, and unhappy with Emotiva. I have this amp for along time, and this issue started early, I did contact Emotiva from the beginning (Had all emails back and ford with them from years ago... I forwarded to them all).
On another issue, while the unit was opened, I notice on the main board, all the big capacitors were of cheap,unknown-chinese name, and seem like some of them started leaking (the amp still function fine). There are many discussions of this issue on this forum for many years now. Anyway, my question is if I replace these cheap Capacitors with HIGHER END, HIGHER QUALITY, brand name, equivalent or better specs/value.... will that improve the sound quality? significantly (can I hear the different)?? Have anybody experience with this?? any input or advice??. Thank you

If they're leaking, go ahead and "repair" your amp. Using upgraded caps can't hurt. Tell us if the sound improves.
