A few weeks back...maybe a little longer, some were getting all wound up about wanting a power meter. Here it is! courtesty of Radio Shack.....of all places. www.youtube.com/watch?v=UvMfiRsErcAThis is the PICK OF THE LITTER among these devices. Still won't show REAL power unless you are driving a resistor, but fun, nonetheless. Have fun. I have Zero Idea of 'used' availability......but I suspect a few ARE out there somewher lurking in garage sales or at GoodWill.

Yep I remember that. I almost bought for fun. But decided on something else. Brings back memories though.

A short time ago, half a dozen posters were wanting one. If EMO just made a copy? I'm sure it's not 'proprietary'.......they'd SELL like crazy.
Make the illumination BLUE like You-Know-Who and it's worth a 10% price bump.....

i haven't any idea. I ran across this was looking for information on my Minimus 7 speakers, a classic to this day......Very small 2-way in a cast aluminum enclosure.
I you got one......take it apart and draw a schematic. Problem might be getting METERS but it might also be possible to replace the meters with a pair of LED Ladder displays?

It includes 100w dummy loads, speaker and bnc outputs. The two power meters are kits from Velloman. www.velleman.eu/downloads/0/infosheets/k8098_uk.pdfAttachment Deleted

+1 I have one of these. I bought NOS it for a fair price a few years ago. Works flawless and it came in the original box with the schematic/block diagram from Realistic. The red LED's are instantaneous power where as the needles are average power. Switched on the back for 4 or 8 ohms. And the toggle switch on the front for 2W or 200W. Like leonski said they're not the best if you really want to know actual power output to a precise level. But they are a fair approximation. And a hell of a lot of fun to look at

I'd like to have an analogue Vu meter, no LEDS and no Digital display that looks like something out of Michael Knight's Firebird on Knight Rider:

I kind of like the retro Radio Shack meter... although I always preferred blue.
I had one of these a very long time ago (its a Marantz 140). Honestly, I thought the amp itself pretty good, but maybe not great... But I do consider it to be one of the best LOOKING amps I've ever seen...
(And, yes, that cabinet has real oiled walnut veneer... )
It should be possible to replicate meters that look like that in real hi-res video... I would love to see a real hi-res pointer combined with changeable backgrounds and wallpaper... (Like "classic blue" and "steampunk"... ) I've seen a few tries at this in software - but none I've found to be especially compelling.

I could care less about 'measurements' and 'stats'. They make nice music in the garage. The ONLY thing I've heard is that changing the crossover (a SINGLE capacitor!) can make positive changes. That wouldn't surprise me. Speakers must be going on 30 years old..... You'lll never get 110db out of 'em OR bass below 60 or 70hz......or maybe not even that low. I'll look at your link later when I have some time......

I’ll never forget when my PHASE LINEAR power meters.....told me that after 11 years, my amp. did the DEATH 💀 ☠️ roll.....never to return. I just turned the thing on that day and those beautiful needles flew ALL the way over (never to return). Those were the days!

Sorry, 405, about the loss of your Phase Linear. the PL400 was of course, the 'Flame Linear' for which you can, today get substantial rebuild and modification kits to fix some or most of the original issues.
My PERSONAL bias (pardon my bad joke) is for the BIAS meter which Pass has on some of his offerings. As the meter doesn't move, you are in 'A'. As the meter deflects, you are 'leaving class 'A'

With all the love for meters, why not simply buy McIntosh?

As the meter deflects, you are 'leaving class 'A' I heard the nickname “Blaze Linear” more often than the latter, but either way the nickname spurred Bob Carver on (me thinks) to come up with his FAR MORE bulletproof designs. I just passed my 20th year with the Sunfire and it’s perfect! A redesign testament for sure. The Phase 400 is gone 33 years from me. Bill

With all the love for meters, why not simply buy McIntosh? Given the tendency of EMO buyers to not buy 'the high priced spread', you can answer your own question...... Certainly few here would pony up JUST for the blue meters......Me among them, even IF I could afford it....
