As I have been extremely pleased with my Emotiva purchases; PT 100 pre amp, A300 power amp, T Zero speakers, I am looking into a 2nd system in my basement. My thoughts are on the TA 100 integrated and B1+ speakers. They have both been unavailable for a while. My local hifi store has used gear. A Luxman R114 receiver for $150 and B&W DM 601 S3 speakers for $250 a pair. Seems like a pretty good deal. They are closed today and I plan to to get there first thing tomorrow as I would think these will sell fast. This store is very reputable and both items are listed in excellent condition. What would you do?

What would you do? I would make sure your local HI FI store has a minimum 90 day warranty on that gear if you take that route

In the latest Podcast, I believe it was said that they have a "boatload" of stock coming in. Since Emotiva is open today, I would call them and ask when those items will be available for purchase. Based upon that answer, your decision might be a bit easier...

I think that is a dynamite deal. I like the R series receivers from Luxman. As long as the receiver is current and is in proper working order, sure. Would be a match for the B&W 601s3 speakers which I sold a gazillion of. The Luxman will give those speakers great synergy. Yes make sure you have a warranty as the Receiver is rather on the vintage side.

I’m going to call Emotiva to check on the ETA. And I’m going to demo the used stuff. If I like it, I may also buy the B1+. Being that I stream 90% of my music via a Bluesound Node 2i through my Emotiva kit, I would stream this secondary system via my phone. I have a Yamaha S300 CD player with a usb to enable its DAC.
As a side note, I have a Sony PS-LX2 turntable. I hooked it up to the PT 100 and it sounded terrible. Thin, flat, cheap, awful. It has been unused for maybe 20 years. The cartridge is an Ortofon OM5E. Also, I really had to turn the volume way up for it to be heard. Not that I plan to spin any records. I was just curious to see if I missed vinyl, as I have sold off most of my records over the years in yard sales. Is this low volume and thin sounding phenomenon a byproduct of the pre amp’s phono stage or the cartridge?

You did set the phono input to MOVING MAGNET... right? (The OM5E is a moving magnet cartridge... so it won't sound at all right if you set the preamp input to Moving Coil.)
The phono preamp in the PT-100 sounds relatively neutral... And phono cartridges may sound different as they age and some of the flexible suspension parts inside get stiffer... But it shouldn't be that dramatic after only twenty years... I’m going to call Emotiva to check on the ETA. And I’m going to demo the used stuff. If I like it, I may also buy the B1+. Good call. I didn’t have it switched to MM, but there is still a problem. There is a loud hum from the right channel but no other sound. I believe it is the RCA cord. I will have to take the bottom of the TT off to check it. Also, the connections from the cartridge are very loose and will have to be crimped. A project that will have to wait as things are difficult because I can’t use my right arm for several more weeks while I recover from shoulder surgery.
On the other front, the hifi store has a TA 100. It’s where I bought my gear a few weeks ago. It’s their demo unit and will let it go for a nice discount tomorrow.
