Well now with our mobile devices doubling as remotes, it is a no brainer. My USB interface by MOTU can be controlled from any device in my network. It is a web interface. IOS, Android,Windows 10, and MacOS. There are many other examples. The dedicated remote control has had company for years, and now with Crestron and Control 4 and other solutions and some DIY remote solutions, it is a who's who of control and operations.

Just ordered another 665 just in case. All this talk about how fragile Harmony remotes are, I’ve dropped my Elite/665/650 countless times and never broke them.

You guys PROBABLY would laugh 😂 me out of the room..... If you saw my HT remote. Twenty years old and ABANDONED by most original Sunfire users; It came with the theatre 🎭 Grand processor II in 2001. It controls all the primary functions of the XMC1 along with 7 other components. I have 2 sets of HD ENELOOP AAA to rotate out. That’s the real trick. It’s NEANDERTHAL but I hate programming so until I decide to get off my ass I just keep going with it.

Time to grab some Logitech remote hubs I think. I thought about grabbing a couple of extra 665s, but the last few models I had in the 600 series haven't been very durable. Losing the remotes isn't that big of a deal if they will continue the production of the Harmony Hub. They can just push everything to app control via phones and just worry about 1 SKU with the hub. Meh, I have to add a step to use my phone as a remote by unlocking it. That one step ... is an added step that's undesirable for me in contrast of just picking up an unsecure remote and operating it. But you're right, something I didn't think about.... hopefully if Logitech says bye bye in support and no longer offers another company will offer what consumers desire. However, I'm not certain how a wifi device can operate an infrared device except through the hub in which you suggested. Looks like the flock is being forced into an area by the sheep dogs! Your phone doesn't have a smart lock feature? I have mine setup to remain unlocked when it's connected to my devices.

My family has broke the elite twice now. Once, the cover for the underside IR sensor came loose, but I was able to glue it back in place. Another time, it got wet and the touchscreen stopped working. I almost bought a replacement, but it started working again a month later.

I was thinking about picking up a 665 and a hub, but I’m not convinced that Logitech will support them for any length of time. Maybe it’s better to wait to see if another company picks up the baton.

That's not a bad thing, except for visitors to my house (mainly nieces, nephews). It's easy to have them use my Harmony remote, but it would be a little harder if they had to download an app to use my system. Now - for me - I would not care...but would have to buy a Hub. Mark

I use my smart watch since I pretty much have it on all the time for fitness/health monitoring.

I love my Harmony remote, but I always thought it annoying how over priced they were given how fragile they are. I agree. Drop them once. Done! It is amazing considering Logitech's Swiss Asian reputation for quality. I have had many remotes. Again from the class A felony weapon metal Emotiva metal remotes and the like to the plastic made of glass parts Harmony remotes. Yeah you got to be nice to them, but they do break easily. URC remotes are much more durable. The new Control 4 remote looks good too. Many remotes out there, but I am done with remotes. My tablet and smartphone from this point forward are my everyday carry.
