Hi guys, I have a 7.1 AV setup and was wondering if it would be best to get the A3 for the two fronts and center or the A4 for the hieghts and surrounds?
Also without creating another thread, for 2 channel stereo could the A3 or A4 work for that since they are only $50 more than the A2..
Thanks Ron

Thanks Ron If you are currently using a receiver, I would add the A3 for the mains and center channel and power the rest with your receiver. The receiver should have plenty of power to run the heights and surrounds. The A3 will work fine for two channel audio.

BUT? The A4 has the POTENTIAL to run a biamp-able speaker pair......? Not that you actually gain much, but that IS on the table......

You need 5 channels to bi-amp the Left (2), and Right (2), and then use the fifth channel for the Center.

I'm a proponent of biamping, passive or otherwise, but paying close attention to proper speaker setup will provide a more dramatic improvement than biamping will do. Speaker placement is king, everything else comes after. When it's right, you KNOW it! Here's what I watched that opened my mind up to all possibilities of speaker placement. My speakers are heavy, but I followed the explanation and was amazed at the result! Go to 18:04 for the speaker setup instructions, but the entire video has good info.

Yes.....2 amplifier channels per speaker.
BUT....keep in mind you don't gain much if anything. Especially if you don't clip as a stereo or 1 amp channel per speaker.
Best best is probably the 3 channel with L/R/C being the 3 channels of choice for that amp.....
IN GENERAL....you don't gain from 'passive' biamp. You WILL gain, to one degree or another (crossover frequency depending) with REAL biamp, which requires some speaker surgery and and ACTIVE line-level crossover. This is more trouble than most would be willing to go thru....except the people that beat themselves half to death trying to get DIRAC perfect.....

It may be a littel more work....or less? But I've always heard the CARDAS setup is very good........ www.cardas.com/room_setup_main.phpThis is based on the 'magic number' of PHI.....I'm not going into a detailed explanation of this number, but it is the product of the Fibonacci Series and is used in architecture and art for the last 45 centuries.....The Egyptians used it and so did Leonardo along with architects and artists too numerous to mention.... Golden Section is what you might have heard of..... One of the first bits of stereo wisdom imparted to me was that a decent system is a great room (implies good setup) sounds better than a megabuck system in a poor room...(implies poor setup)

I subscribe to the keep it simple camp. A3 and let the receiver do the rest. Real easy.
