Equipment: LG CX OLED TV, XMC-1 (new), MC-700 (old)
Upgraded MC-700 to the refurbished XMC-1. I can not get CEC and ARC to work with the XMC-1. Everything is enabled. The TV does not detect the XMC-1 and passthrough commands do not function. CEC and ARC both work flawlessly with the MC-700. eARC is disabled on the set. CRC is enabled on the XMC-1. I am using certified HDMI cables.
I tried disconnecting the HDMI cables, disconnecting power, factory reset, prayers, hopping on one foot while saying a voodoo chant, etc. I tried both of the HDMI outputs for funsies.
The MC-700 was a great piece. I thought I was upgrading. No WAF for XMC-2 $$$$.

Yes, but I tried Out 1 as well, for funsies. Okay... but just so you're aware, HDMI OUT 2 is the " primary" output and is the only output that supports ARC. You might try unplugging your CX from the AC outlet and then cold power off your XMC-1 (rear power switch off after standby). Reboot your XMC-1 and set its input to HDMI ARC, and then restore power to your CX. If no joy, and if no one else has a suggestion, then reach out to Emotiva directly...

I did cold boot both devices but did not do it in the order your prescribed. I can try that.

I can't get CEC or ARC to work.
The 12V trigger out also does not source enough current to turn on my XPA amp.
Emo support is poor so far. Pretty bummed.

The couple times I have needed them, they were great. How long have yoo had the unit? Can you return it or exchange it for another one?

I can't get CEC or ARC to work. The 12V trigger out also does not source enough current to turn on my XPA amp. Emo support is poor so far. Pretty bummed. Follow the specific instructions found in THIS post to perform the CEC loopback test. If the CEC test fails (and you’ve followed those instructions implicitly), then your CEC controller chip is bad and will need to be replaced under warranty. Neither CEC or ARC will work if this chip is bad. Assuming you have your trigger preferences set up correctly in your XMC-1’s setup menu, if you have an older XPA series, some of them will not trigger from the XMC. I cannot remember what the cause was, but I don’t think it was voltage. Emotiva configured (or I should say “hand made”) special trigger cables to mitigate the issue. I needed one myself and it worked perfectly. Contact Emotiva for assistance with this. Speaking of “contacting support”, are you calling them, emailing them (support@emotiva.com), or just waiting for some sort of response from this thread...?

Looks like CEC loopback is a pass. I have emailed Emotiva starting about 2 weeks ago. Their reply rate was initially 1 reply after 1 to 1.5 days. I got 2 or 3 replies. I have nothing in the past 5 or 6 days. I followed up twice, after 2 or 3 days without hearing anything. And nada for replies. I also called and left a message and have not been called back. I got an email yesterday from their marketing dept re: XMC-2 trade in, but their service as of yet does not warrant my future support. The amp is a Gen3, maybe 3 years old. It triggers off another Emotiva processor and another AVR just fine.

I also never wait for a call back. Yes, people should reply to their messages, but that doesn't always happen. I just keep calling till I get an answer.

The ECC-1 will fail every time if a full two minutes have not elapsed prior to initiating the test. Everything in the processor needs to be fully booted. Just an FYI. It's good the other two Passed the test.

If the CEC Loopback test passed, then you should have functioning CEC and ARC. I have a CX and an RMC-1L and ARC works fine. The XMC-1 should have no issues triggering a “Gen3” XPA series amp. My XMC-1 had no problem with triggering anything other than for an old XPA-5. After upgrading to a Gen3, no problem and no special trigger cable needed. Sounds to me like you have an XMC-1 with some obvious issues. When calling Emotiva, keep in mind that they are only open from 9AM - 5PM (central time) on weekdays only. If you’re promised a callback and don’t receive one within what seems to be a reasonable amount of time... call back. According to the latest podcast, everyone is back in the office, so “Covid” related issues are not at play, but things do get very busy for a small staff. Sometimes it pays to be persistent...

I called a few times until I got an answer. Hate to be that guy, but it did work. Once I got real people on the phone, support was very very good. The unfortunate news is they think the trigger board and front panel board must be bad. So we are going to have it serviced.

I’m glad to hear that it ended well. BTW, I know they have an LG OLED in house that they use for testing purposes. Ask them to make sure ARC is functioning before they return your unit... 😉

Major progress was made today. For funsies, I enabled eARC on the TV. The screen flickered a couple times, then the TV popped up a message stating it discovered Emotiva. After that, CEC and ARC came online.
So, in my experience, eARC must be enabled with the XMC-1, despite that it has just the ARC logo on HDMI out 2.

While I cannot say with 100% certainty, I would assume that you’ll be fine. My particular issue was with my original XMC-1 which was addressed with a firmware update. I wouldn’t worry about it...

Are you using HDMI OUT 2 on your XMC-1...? THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!
I have been struggling with CEC not working properly with my Firestick TV Ultra and switching the XMC-1 output to #2 solved the "no power on/off" problem! THANK YOU!
