Hello, new to forum! Joined to ask the question below.
Was looking to buy into a Emotiva system? Looking at the web site all pre-amps are discontinued. Seems strange that they would leave a hole in their product line like that.
So, my question?
When and what will become available in the pre-amp line?
was not buying this month, but soon.. Also looking are the Parasound new classic 200 pre and 2125v2 as well. Little more money, but word on the street is they are worth it!

No word yet on when we'll see the replacement for the TOTL "X Series"...  |

I know this is super expensive but the XMC-2 has a nice preamp if the XMC-1 is anything to go by  You can also check out Schiit's Freya for a good performing preamp. The current line up lets you choose between tube and solid state. They have a solid state only product called the Freya S that you may be able to find used. |

I can't give you a date yet... but the new PT1 (the replacement for the PT-100) will be along pretty soon.
The new high-end preamp will be a bit longer ... but it is also on the way.

NOT an endorsement to buy, but I have the Parasound P5 pre and a Pair of the A23 amps and couldn't be happier.
Bass managment of the pre is a welcome feature and the amps have a 'loop' in/out so a single RCA run can power a biamp speaker....

I do like the Parasound feature set. One of my concerns is the age of the Burr Brown 1798 chip. Not sure how much I would be leaving on the table, compared to new chips. Pricey pre amp for older dac tech. They switched to the ESS line for the P6  Wonder Why ?! How do like the Parasound sound , compared to Emotiva?? Thanks for the info/reply Mike |

The ESS Sabre DAC chips have a house sound that some people like. People who like them tend to describe them as sounding "very detailed". People who don't like them tend to describe them as sounding "etched" or "grainy". In general, it can make speakers that are somewhat laid back sound more detailed, but can be annoying with speakers that are more forward sounding already.
(How much of this house sound is apparent in the overall product depends on details of how the circuitry around the DAC chip is designed - and it varies quite a bit.)
In this case I would point out that, if you hear a difference, it is NOT going to be because one chip is older or newer. It is almost certainly going to be the difference between the more neutral sound of the TI 1798 and the house sound of the ESS Sabre chips...

Keithy did mention it, although not specifically, but the low-pass filter used can also have a large impact on the sound of a DAC chip. I didn't realize how much until I got my current AURALiC Aries Mini. I can switch filters on the fly from the iPad app & the difference in filter types is surprising.

My DACMagic + has a selection, also switchable on the fly. Linear Minimum Steep Experiment is in order, here, since they ARE different and have audible Plusses and Minuses..... |

USED Parasound P4 is only a couple hundred and will resell for about THAT....so no big deal trying it.
What do you need or want in a new pre?
Tone controls? Processor loop? Bass Management? Phono Input? DAC input? Balanced 'in out'?
I've grown to like the feature set of my P5, which is very flexible and even has a sub-out level control for fine-tuning!

Thanks for taking the time to deal with my questions!
I just complete a log cabin in North Georgia and trying to outfit the main room with a system. The room will be a challenge as it is 20x30 with TG floor and ceiling. Vaulted ceiling goes from 10’ to 18’ at peak. Exterior walls are 8" Engelmann Spruce from a dead standing timber forest in Utah. It has taken my son and me 2.5 years to complete and I will say it has turned out great.
I will not be there full time for 4 or 5 years, so I visit 5 weeks a years and my son about the same.
Looking for a good sounding system. I listen to a digital using Qobuz at least a couple hours a day on my current home and office systems. Looking to build a 2 channel system to marry up with the HT nicely?
Just looking for some solid, well informed advise!!
Important features are:
New and good sounding
good warranty
Reasonable cost
Good DAC performance
I have just purchase: new
JBL A190, A130 and A135C, also an A120P sub woofer- 5 year warranty
Yamaha Adventage RX-A1080—5 year warranty

How much power TO the cabin? Solar installed? Battery backup? Dedicated outlets / sub panel FOR the stereo / entertainment system?
In any event? HIGH sensitivity speakers will need less power to fill that largish room....600 square feet with a 10 foot ceiling is a very large 6000 CUBIC feet. That is a large space to 'excite'.
3db of sensitivity ALL OTHER THINGS BEING EQUAL equates to double or 1/2 the amplifier power. So speakers in the low-80s (sensitive, not efficient) would need a certain amount of power to reach a given level.
IF you fall for speakers in the low 90s? Power need is only 1/10th th first pair. Amps are heat. 'D' amps are somewhat better, but not for all tastes.
Looking thru the HT gear list? I"m not convinced either the speakers OR amp have what it takes for such a huge space......Yamaha has a feeble amp, at best. The speakers are LESS sensitive than specified, since they are being fed 2 watts @4ohms and it is a 6ohm speaker.....
I'd have spent ALL my $$$ on a 'combined' system. Fewer / better speakers and a more powerful amplifier.... For a room such as you describe? Another 3 or 4 subwoofers of the type you purchased might make it.

Well, not the best news I have heard today?
I'm planning on putting the speakers/tv to one side of the long wall. So, listening area will be 15x20 with one side opening to the rest of the room.
Not looking for a full blown live concert experience, but the best sound using the cards I have.

I have a 2 other subs, 1 (12")on home system and 1 (8")on office system, that I will added to the cabin system. That will be down the road.
Just trying to figure out a powering option for the cabin? When that's done and the smoke clears, I will make adjustments as needed.

I've got a like new PT-100 I bought for my garage system...has maybe 10 hours of use. I got so frustrated with the remote and the operating menu trying to listen to FM radio ( which is mostly what I do) I put it on a shelf and it's been sitting ever since. It's probably a year old, not sure about warranty transfer. I picked up a used DC-1 for garage instead, had a few tuners laying around anyhow, all is well. Not sure what you are wanting exactly....but if ya think you might be interested, drop me a message. Good luck with the search.....the cabin in north Georgia sounds awesome!!

They are usually very good at turning electricity into sound. The new KLIPSCH get good press and have a fan base. But I would go UPLINE to the Forte IV (4500$ pair) or Heresy for less. The La Scala would be great in such a HUGE room, though, a lot more $$$ Go listen to the Corner Horn.....MADE for such huge rooms where it couples well given the long walls.....But vastly expensive. And the good news? You wouldnt need a GIANT, electric-eating amp, either. The Forte IV are OVER 10db more sensitive than my panels so would be like buying a 10x MORE powerful amplifier..... To get THAT much power? I'd need a couple 20 amp outlets, one for each of some HUGE amp... The Rogue Chronus Magnum III is 100 a side and might be enough....vacuum tube goodness! Pass Labs makes some incredible stuff which will last a couple lifetimes. The 100 watt 'A' amp will satisfy with any of the Klipsch.... Keep a few things in mind. First? My new MOTTO......'One And Done'. Buy good NOW and don't worry about 'The Churn'....It'll cost a lot less in the long run. Second? Better watts ARE better. The Klipsch I refer to, above, with 100 to 200 a speaker? Rock your world. Third? TEST and go LISTEN somewhere. Go find a place in Miami, or maybe go spend the weekend in Atlanta. Gainsville, a cool college town MIGHT have a good stereo store. I doubt Tampa does...heck they've even RUINED Ybor City. Titusville USED to have good population of Rocket Scientists who liked stereo, but who knows any more? Miami has 2 Heritage dealers, one of which is up the road a little in Palm Beach....Go ONLY to the Heritage dealers. They will be able to help you best. |

As Boomzilla said in another thread, Emotiva appears to be ignoring 2 channel audio and putting most their eggs in HT. Very disappointing.
If I was going dedicated 2-ch system today- Musical Fidelity M5si Integrated Amplifier
Beautiful audiophile sound. TT mm preamp. Asynchronous USB input with built-in DAC, 150w/ch into 8 ohms
Emo could take the XMC-1 balanced and fully differential stereo signal path, add xps-1, and A-2 amp and have a wonderful 2-chan integrated unit
