Don’t let MQA drive you down any decision making process (ain’t worth it!)

The reason it doedn't matter is that both are likely audibly indistinguishable from each other as is the case with a lot of audio formats!

Don’t let MQA drive you down any decision making process (ain’t worth it!) Very true. From what I gathered in the video, Tidal no longer uses flac files. Maybe I misunderstood. The way I understood it was hifi setting was downsampled MQA files.

To me, Tidal's catalog > Qobuz' catalog, by quite a large margin. Of course, your tastes in music are different than mine.
PS - I though Qobuz sounded better, but that may have been a placebo.

Looks like a ton of people are canceling Tidal due to MQA. I'm listening to my playlist now through my TA-100 / T0's and am still totally amazed how good it sounds. I must subjectively like 1-unfold MQA sound quality. (Disclaimer: I have aging ears. ) I didn't like how Spotify sounded at all prior to switching to Tidal, though I know they're about to go hi-res soon. Now I'd like to hear how fully unfolded MQA sounds.
That said, I spent a good deal of time reading up on MQA -- comments / opinions, etc. Pretty interesting.

So I bought an MQA rendering DAC to try with Tidal, and I was surprised to find there is yet an audible improvement in audio quality, IMO. I won't claim it's better than lossless FLAC (which is the real question for most). I personally can't discern between CD quality and hi-res like others. But there is an audible difference between 1-unfold and fully decoded MQA that makes it worthwhile if you stream master files from Tidal (again, IMO). This isn't to diminish concerns about their distribution process or their claims of lossless equivalency, but strictly from a listening standpoint on Tidal. It's hard to explain other than to say dynamic range is improved and the placement or sound stage of instruments is opened up another notch. And it does vary between songs (probably due to the original masters).
