on the cheap? Current set up is Airplay2 feeding Apple Express from Apple Music to BasX AC2 to Mission speakers. Currently using the APEs as a preamp, using the volume controls in Airplay/Music. (I have two other systems for different house areas using the same topology, just different audio equipment) All the APEs are on 1G ethernet backhaul to the router, no wifi used. All the APEs have Toslink. Seems like I could use the APE's Toslink to a DAC, then to the amp. Few questions come to mind right away: Does Airplay2 support HiRes/Lossless streaming. I haven't been able to locate any info online so far. Is Toslink feeding the DAC viable? What units are available? Do I need to add a preamp or can I continue to use Airplay/APE as a pseudo preamp? I reviewed that thread before posting and it seemed focused on the higher end existing solutions. I didn't want to hijack the thread! :-) As the OP I can say the thread is not limited to any price range, I’m sure we’d all welcome varied discussion, not to mention I’ve been posting about BitPerfect which costs $10. |
