The contenders are the new Emotiva Big-Ego+ and the Audioquest Dragonfly Cobalt. Yes, I know that the latter is 2x the price of the former, but ignore that for now.
The Audioquest uses a Sabre DAC chip, the Emo doesn’t. At one time that difference alone would have given the Emo a lead of a country mile. But the newer the Sabre DAC, the less the infamous “Sabre-glare” is audible! The Audioquest Dragonfly Black 1.5 that I’m currently using has no audible glare despite using a Sabre chip.
So has anyone heard both of these DACs, and if so, which did you prefer, and why? Yes, Emotiva employees are allowed to answer too, but do your best to be honest and impartial, please.
