someone who had the Marantz 8802a / XPA 5 gen 2 configuration, did you have the problem of reversed XLR pins? or is this a problem only has the Gen 3?

in summary ....also the gen 2 has the pins reversed? Correct! All XPA Amps … The BALANCED INPUTS on our XPA and XPA‐DR amplifiers INVERT ABSOLUTE PHASE. (They are wired as: Pin1=SHIELD, Pin3=HOT/POSITIVE, Pin2=COLD/NEGATIVE.)

Correct, it’s only a problem if you mix amp brands, it’s also possible you would need to correct your subwoofer phase.

I don’t know if there’s a standard for ‘positive phase’ on subwoofers, so while theoretically I might say 180, the best way to set subwoofer phase it to measure output at the crossover point, and adjust for the highest output. This also takes subwoofer placement into account, especially if you have a continuously variable phase adjustment. The reason I linked the thread in my first post is that all of this is covered, the second post has ‘scenarios’ and you fit Scenario #2.

Yup, reversed, you can either get reversing XLR cables or just reverse the wiring on the outputs (the option I took.)
