I reluctantly decided to pay the extra $15.00 per month for DirectTV's AV Warranty against any component potentially used while using their service. Well within the first year of have the insurance, I blow a channel in my 7 channel main amp. I called DirectTV to put in a claim and after hearing the rather loud gulp in the representatives throat when I told him that it was a $5,000 amp, they actually wrote me a check for the Blue Book value of the amp.
So as a suggestion, if you use DirectTV, you should look into getting the protection for your TV and / or sound equipment that cost you $thousands.
