You can see my current equipment in my sig. I have a dedicated theater room in my new house that's 13' x 18'. The screen will be on one of the short walls, and I'll have 2 rows of 3 theater recliners. I will be using this room primarily for TV, movies, and gaming, though I will also occasionally listen to surround sound music in this room (I have a 2 channel system in the living room for vinyl and digital 2 channel music).
I'm thinking for the size of my room two RS13s would be excessive, so it seems like it would make sense to either get one RS13 or two RS11s. Then again many people say there's no such thing as too much bass, so I might be better off getting an RS13 and then optionally buying a second one down the road if I feel I need more.

Definitely two RS11's.
Multiple location opportunities to smooth the response. 58 square inches more radiating area with two RS11 vs one RS13. Two subs won't work as hard as a single sub would. Greater dynamics, which is something that surprised me.

I vote for two RS13. So buy 1 now and add 1 later sounds good.

You are incorrect if your assumption that “too big” can happen! Two subs whatever size you decide will make for better sound and impact. (Very technical that statement, hope I didn’t loose you! LOL) But seriously, with two LARGE subs you can turn them down but with two small subs you can only turn them up so far. My theater of choice at home has two duel 15” drivers per cabinet. They can shake the paneling off the walls, I have the option of dialing them in (up or down) to whatever sounds best to me. Years ago I only had a single pair of 15” subs and I didn’t have as many options as I do now. I’ve dealt with multiple subs over the years like many, even had 6 at one time. For most theaters I believe that two identical subs of power just over ones need will always produce the best results. I look forward to hearing your sub adventure.

Get two RS13s and adjust as needed. Never too much bass plus these are articulate subs.

Out of curiosity, do neither the RS11 or 13 have feet? It appears they are flat-bottomed, which is interesting as I've built 2 subs that are flat-bottomed but have never seen a manufacturer do it.

Just buy either one but do yourself a favor and buy two of them and integrate them with REW and a MiniDSP 2X4 HD.
