My ERC-1 has quit working. It will accept a disk, “loading” appears on the screen and it tries to load until it gives up and ejects the disk.
I believe that Toshiba made the transports for these players but I can find no model number or information on where I might find one, if anywhere. I like my player and I don’t use it enough to want to go out and spend too much on a new one. If I can repair this one, it might work better financially.
Any help would be appreciated.
Best,
Doug

Have you considered checking the laser itself to make sure it's clean? I had a problem with an Oppo Blu-ray player not reading discs and it just turned out to be this issue. There are "cleaning discs" you can get to "polish" the laser.

There are "cleaning discs" you can get to "polish" the laser. chunk of lint or a finger smudge will render laser 'inoperable' Cleaning MAY help. BE CAREFUL not to SOAK with anything.......LOOK FIRST..... I don't know best technique, but MAYBE a q-tip with a DROP of high-proof alcohol (not that 70% stuff) Lens cleaning tissue and lens cleaning fluid from a buddy's camera bag might be better? He'll have a lens brush, too...... there might ALSO be a sensitivity control for the laser. As it ages it puts out LESS light and than fails. But if you can 'turn up the volume' you may yet get some use out of it..... WRITE TO EMO and see if they'll disclose the transport maker and MODEL number. Last CD player I owned.....a Big Dollar CA840 had a SANYO Transport.

I JUST read your earlier post..... KSA is a SONY Reference. vasiltech.narod.ru/CD-Player-DAC-Transport.htmList of DAC / TRANSPORT. You MIGHT find the right one here and be able to trace back..... I'd call SONY and find out if that KSA number was ended THEM.......

I would talk to Emotiva. Tell them what’s happening and see if they can offer thoughts on what the issue might be. If it’s the Toshiba disc loader, you are likely out of luck.
Cleaning the laser is worth a shot.
But don’t go too far down the rabbit hole….I certainly have. There are good, not too expensive CD players to be had.

Well, since this thread has been resurrected, here's something else to consider with at least some players.
My 1989 Denon player has an adjustment for laser intensity. When it gets weak, it can be tweaked and made to be within spec again. I did this about ten years ago. The player had been taking a long time to load and play, or not play at all. After the adjustment, which I did because it's really easy, it worked perfectly.

I mentioned KSA being a SONY call-out? Really KSS belongs to them..... vasiltech.narod.ru/CD-Player-DAC-Transport.htmI have no idea if or when this list has been updated, but for an older player? doesn't matter. I GLANCED down and spotted a couple Emotiva references......
