As always, the articulate Mr. Robinson lays it all out. Although the TA1 may be the more versatile product for the money, the new PT1 preamplifier, IMHO, is by far the better value. The TA1 is competitive in its price class. The PT1 is competitive with products costing up to 5x its meager $400 price tag. I've tried my PT1 with:
My 12WPC modified Heathkit monoblocks My Emotiva PA-1 monoblocks My Ashly "pro" amplifier My Crown PSA-2 "pro" amplifier
With all of these, the PA1 sounds really good, but it has a particular synergy with the big Crown. This combination (PA1 + Crown PSA-2) is giving me some of the very best sound I've ever heard in my room!

However, I am not crazy about the way they spec the power rating (which is also reflected in the VTV specs). According to the MC252MP datasheet, 250W is on 4 Ohm, 1% THD, 1KHz. At the same conditions over 8 Ohm Max Power is 150W. I'd guess that on 8 Ohm at 0.1% THD and 20-20kHz, Max Power is around 120W. Not bad, but much lower than what is advertised. Yes, I know, at the end is "only" a ~3dB difference and what really counts is how the amp sounds, but it gives the impression of playing with numbers.

You’re right, 8 ohms is a long time standard, and if it’s not being used it should be made very clear, these aren’t. I thought their 8 channel amp looked interesting, but besides that, it is both full 19” Rack width and 20” deep — even deeper than an Emo amp, too much for me.

I don't no but would like to try one, or the guy who owns Buckeye amps builds them a bit cheaper and I do know a guy who recently bought one but haven't chatted with him in awhile but he runs a full JTR setup with D-Sonic amps and he purchased the Buckeye amp to run some Atmos speakers I believe.

I’d love a souped-up version with balanced outs and let’s get back to the metal remotes! I love the size of my Erc-3 remote. I wonder where that would need to priced. Also on a side note, I do like the updated look and defeatable lighting (I cover or put dark stickers on mine usually). However, I do agree with AR&KW:) on taking Emotiva design further. I have no idea what the costs are for that or even the volumes needed, but as Emotiva products creep closer to “mainstream” products like Arcam and NAD the quirkyness of the old design is weakening. If the TA-1 had the amp from the XPA-200, it would be a different story, as back in the day they probably would have sold for this new offering’s price, and consequently I would perceive it as cooler. I think you guys know what I mean here.

Cool looking amps, but their logo looks like underwear.

Hmm, my TA-100 is just a year old. Might be worth selling and upgrading to this for the Bluetooth, slightly extra power and updated design and remote . I've owned NAD in the past and the one thing I do miss is the dynamic power output (though some say that's just a gimmick). Other than that, the Emotiva seems the better value for the features IMO.
EDIT: Oh, one other thing I miss is having a volume control that you simply turn from 7 o'clock to noon and that takes it to halfway. I don't care for this multi-turn granularity. But the newer NADs do the same I think. Small gripe I guess with the remote.
