I recently replaced my old plasma TV set with the LG 55-OLED-C1 in my 5.1 signature system. Because the UMC-200 will not pass a 4K video signal, I need to run source material straight into the TV and redirect audio from the TV to the UMC-200. HDMI-2 is the ARC-out on the TV and HDMI-4 is the ARC input/output on the UMC-200. I have connected the two with a brand-new high speed HDMI cable, as well as with a couple different older cables. FWIW, I have also connected the units with an optical cable as well.
The TV recognizes that both the HDMI and optical cables are there. In fact, when I finally put the optical cable into service, the TV flashed "Emotiva audio is now available", or something like that on the screen.
I read in another thread that because the UMC-200 remote does not have an "ARC" button like the MC-700 does, that the trick is to push the TV button instead. I tried that, only to get a message on the small UMC-200 panel that Alexa and Analog-1 were now connected. At some point in the distant past, I had an Amazon Echo connected and reconfigured the remote for that. However, no matter how much I play around in the Menu with the remote, I cannot get a hint of sound via either HDMI-4 or Optical.
Will someone please walk me through what I need to do to get the remote set up properly? I suspect I am missing something simple, but so far I just cannot find the trick.

I wish I knew the answer. I've been wondering for a while if the UMC-200 would process the ARC channel from a 4K TV source. Maybe you'll answer that question.
Are any of your sources coming from/through the UMC-200 or are all of them now direct into the TV?
Both ARC and the Optical are for getting the audio inputs to the UMC-200. Optical S/PDIF (TOSLINK) doesn't support multichannel LPCM, Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby Atmos and DTS:X or high-definition audio such as Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio. HDMI ARC doesn't share those limits so you can play all 7.1 formats the UMC-200 can decode and the TV can output (looks like the C1 has some limits here).
The Output HDMI/ARC is the only ARC port on the UMC-200 not HDMI4. Was this a typo or are you using the wrong port? The TV button is for the ARC input as source from that port. If you're not using the Alexa as input anymore you look at resetting the input mappings.
The second half of the question is the TV. There are reports of problems getting it to turn on ARC output.
You may need to play with the CEC setting on both devices to get ARC to work. Also may have to make sure to power things in the right order (Display first).
Are you getting any audio when you select the Optical1? Are you getting any audio when you select TV?
Hopefully this will help spur some input from those that have more insight.

ARC is not a channel - but rather the option for sending an HDMI audio signal "backwards" from an input on the TV to an output on the processor. Therefore there is no "ARC output" on any TV... and no way to "send an ARC signal to one of the inputs on the processor" (unless you buy something like that Sharc EARC box).
ARC is part of HDMI-CEC ... so ARC definitely will NOT work unless CEC is enabled on both ends... and you are using the "HDMI-ARC" connector on both. Completely blocking CEC in any other way will also ensure that ARC will NOT work.
You actually can get surround sound, and even DD+, through optical - although the bandwidth is somewhat limited. However a given TV set may or may not offer the option to do so (look for a choice between "surround" and "stereo" or "PCM 2.0" somewhere).
HDMI ARC actually does have similar limitations to the optical connection...
eARC, which is the new version of ARC that goes with HDMI 2.1, supports pretty well all the audio modes that regular HDMI supports.

Thank you Keith for correcting my poor terminology and errors. That they call it Analog Return Channel is confusing.
I see that the OP has created another thread for his issues.

ARC is part of CEC (so, if CEC if turned off, then ARC definitely won't work). You also have to pick it as an input on the processor and as an output on the TV... (some things switch automatically and some don't). Sometimes it will also work or not work depending on which device you turn on first. And sometimes, between certain devices, it just plain won't work. I'm afraid I don't recall the specific details in the case of the UMC-200. this never worked. when turning on cec.
