After relocating my stereo, at the request of my wife, I'm a little confused about the Bridged setting on the rear of the AMP. I'm pretty sure I had the Bridged Configuration switched to OFF prior to moving it but now it only powers both speakers when set to Bridged Configuration ON?. I have a pretty basic set up, Yamaha AV receiver, XPA2, Proac Studio 140's and a BK Subwoofer. Both outputs from the receiver are plugged into the AMP but only the left speaker operates when in Bridged OFF, if I switch to Bridged ON both speakers operate, its like the toggle switch is operating in reverse?. Question, if the Bridged Configuration is set to ON should both speakers be working if connected in a normal way, i.e. using both NEG and POS outputs from each channel on the AMP connected to each corresponding speaker? I would have thought that if set to Bridged mode a speaker would have to be connected to the POS terminal on both the left and right outputs on the AMP as per the instruction manual, and if not connected this way they would not operate?

RE Left channel operating but Right channel not operating in Normal Non-Bridged Mode, remove the Right channel interconnect from the amp and preamp, then take the Left interconnect and remove it from the amp's Left Input Channel and move it to the Right Input Channel, but leave it connected to the Left Output Channel on the preamp. The idea being that the Left Output of the preamp works, so use it to test the Right Input of the amp. I would expect bridging to work something like what you propose, but I'd need to look at the wiring config in the manual to verify.

One channel of the amp may be bad so in bridged it is sending the signal from one (good) channel across both speakers. As ttocs said, double check all the wiring, and when not in bridged mode swap input and output (speaker) cables to see if the problem is with one channel of the amplifier. Make sure it is powered off, unplug it, give it a few minutes and check everything, then plug back in and step though trying each channel, swapping inputs and repeat, and swap outputs and repeat, powering completely off between each swap. Do NOT change anything whilst the amp is on.

I have tried every configuration and no matter what I try the right channel will not operate. So I guess your right, the right channel may have failed and in bridge mode it defaults to both channels or something like that. I may have to pull the Amp apart and have a look.

Look to see if there are separate fuses for each channel. Hopefully it's just a fuse for the Right channel. Otherwise, given the age of the amp, look at the capacitors for any sign of stress or worse.

I emailed Emotiva support and they got straight back to me. They suggested toggling the BAL/UN-BAL switches a few times as there may be corrosion on the contacts or not seating properly, I switched them multiple times and now the problem is solved! An easy fix to a frustrating problem!

An easy fix to a frustrating problem! Probably not a bad practice for the rest of us to follow. All connections age. Unplugging and replugging will clean the connections, flipping the switches the contacts. Now the fuse holders may be an interesting thought.

Nice that it worked out, I know those switches can get stuck or make a bad contact at times.
