Hello all, I was setting the levels on my 9.1 sur system and when I got to the center speaker it seemed to plateau at 74.5db on the SPL meter. No matter how much higher I set the level it seemed to hold at 74.5db. Finally I gave up and lowered the level until it went below 74.5db and the just upped it by one. I have a Marantz Av7702mkII with a Emotiva UPA-700. All other speakers seem to adjust accordingly was just wondering if I have hit some sort of sound wall or has this happened to anyone else. Thank you for any info anyone can provide.

Not familiar with the Marantz operational settings, but here goes.
What other amp(s) power the other speakers, and which speakers are in the system? The SPL you specified is for using Levels in the Marantz? What is the max SPL for the other channels? Please check all of them, might be enlightening.
If room correction is being used, then I would say that a reason for running out of volume level would be due to one or more channels being maxxed out of head room as determined by the correction software.
Otherwise, start by swapping the Center channel interconnect with another channel and see if the low volume level stays with the Center speaker or not.

ttocs Thanks for the reply, so for the full specs It’s a Marantz AV7702mkII with a Emotiva UPA-700 for the 6 surrounds (Emotiva UAW 8.2) and the Emotiva C2 center, a Emotiva BasX-700 for the L and R. I am using a SPL 3rd party meter, that was suggested on the Audioholics website and appears to be doing a good job. I just added the 2 wide speakers and decided to recalibrate the system again. I used the Marantz Audyssey built in calibration as a starting point and then was just fine tuning the levels when I noticed that the C2 center was plateauing at 74.5db. I was only at like +3 with the level and went all the way to +7 and the meter never went past 74.5db. So I just went back down till it went to 73db and added a +1 to that level. It sounds great so there really isn’t a complaint, I just had never had that happen before and was wondering if there was a explanation behind it. You do make a good point in that perhaps its the room correction that is limiting the center from going higher so I will look into that when I get home. Again, thanks for the reply.

ttocs Thanks, you were on the right track. I figured out what was limiting my C2 center channel. I checked and noticed that on the Marantz there is a Channel Level Adjustment setting and I assume using it negates the settings within the levels adjustments. I had that set at a +2 which, now I know to change that in the levels settings and not through the channel level adjustments. Now I have everything reading correctly and preparing to watch the next big movie, which I suppose is Dune. Thank you all for your input.
