I have some XPA gen1 amps that I have loved for almost a decade. I recently purchased the BasX A7 Seven channel amp and I'm very impressed with the sound quality as I noticed a marked sound improvement over the A-100 I temporarily using while my gear was in storage. I know the XPA has the clear power advantage but due to having destructive cats I had to get rid of my much loved floor standing mains for the wonderful sounding Airmotiv B1+ bookshelf speakers (out of cat range). Long story short before I buy the XLR to RCA adapters to use with my XMC-2 to the BasX A7 and redo my wiring I am wondering if the anyone has moved from a first gen XPA amp to BasX amp and noticed any marked difference or improvement in detail in sound. The XPA is going to be a beast on those Airmotiv B1+ and I know more power is usually better but I'm mostly concerned about detail and musicality and don't seem to have any noise floor problems that balanced connections may solve.
Anyone make this comparison ?
Thanks in advance

I must have been simply LUCKY. I had CATS and MAGNEPANS fo years and never a problem.... A sofa didn't fair quite that well and a small carpet was also on the 'list'.......

I had done the opposite trade up. I went from an A500 to XPA5 and thought the sound quality was noticeably better with the XPA. At the time, I did have some relatively low sensitivity speakers (85db) and the XPA helped add some punch to the mid to low range of the speakers. IMO you would be better off with an upgrade of your bookshelf speakers. The B1+ have a great upper end with the folded ribbon, but I find the mid to low range lacking.

Thanks for the replies, I morn my towers every day but thank god I have a capable sub to go with the B1+.
I have had some bad luck with cats and storage hence the underway redo of my audio system as you can add water damage to some of my electronics to the list as well. Anyhoo, the XPA 2 gen1 and XPA 3 gen1 are my big amps and was just curious as to whether they were at least as musical as the new BasX amps. This has hit the pocket book and the wife is ready to kill me so trying to figure which way to go. Cats although much loved have cost me big! (monetary and otherwise).

The XPA-2 gen 1 is a really nice amp. Like really nice. The XPA-2 gen 2 is slightly more balanced/laid back in a better way. But both are good. I don't think the Bas-x amps can compete with them. They were never meant to. (I've heard the UPA-500, the A-300, XPA-2 gen 1 and 2, XPA-1 L, XPA-1 gen 2).

This will allow myself to spend wisely so I can more easily escape my wife's wrath.

They sold for about $300 a pop and they sound excellent. One caveat - some hard to drive speakers like Maggies or Martin Logans they may not do so well.

Thanks garbulky and everyone.
Think I'll give the XPA gen-1 amps a go, just been so long since I've heard them that as sad as it is... I've forgotten how they sound, so gonna lug them brutes out and set them up.
I'll put the BasX amp on the height and surrounds.
