Hey yall,
I've got myself a new Sony TV and I'M trying to set up an activity on my Harmony to use the TV's built in apps and send audio back down the EARC channel to the XMC-2 (I know it only supports ARC). Issue is, when setting up the Harmony using MyHarmony, the list of inputs includes HDMI 2 but not HDMI ARC, which I only seem to be able to configure using the actual EMO remote toggling up through the inputs?
Am I missing something?

I can’t get to my Harmony Hub right now to show a picture, but will try to get a shot of it later, not sure why you’re not seeing it. There’s also a Harmony Remote Thread —-> Here

Lsc is right, if you have a non-hub based remote, setting a 'Button' to select the HDMI ARC input might be the easiest solution. Here is what that looks like in the setup menu. After you've done this you would choose 7 as your input (or whatever Button you've chosen). If you have a Hub based remote it would look like this in the Activity Setup: Or this in the Device remote:

Thanks guys, I was using the web based Harmony app which is slightly different and I had to assign the ARC input to say button Input 1 in the EMO, and then add Input 1 to the XMC-2 device in Harmony and then add the Input 1 as the input in the Activity. Anyway I got there in the end thanks for your help!
Unfortunately I can not get any sound at all through ARC even though I have updated to FW2.3 and have a brand new TV.
Annoyingly I did get sound initially when I first hooked it up but now I cant seem to get it to work at all. I have enable CEC but this hasn't helped. Is there anything else that needs to be enabled in the XMC-2?

At this point you'd probably do better to ask in the RMC/XMC Owners thread.

In case any other Harmony owners want to have the ARC as an input. I was able to do this in the Harmony application by creating a new input for the XMC-2 and assigning it the Input-ARC command. Now it can be assigned like any other input. Took me a couple of minutes to work out, but it is possible.

Is there anything else that needs to be enabled in the XMC-2? Yes you have to disconnect the HDMI cable on both ends. Reboot the XMC2 and unplug and replug your TV…hopefully this gets things “unstuck”.

Actually this is not possible as I have mounted the TV on the wall and as its very snug it took me at least 20 mins to plug in the hdmi plug at the back of the tv and the cable is hidden in the wall cavity and I am not about to screw that up just because Emo still cant make a processor work properly after all these years (yes I'm getting a little annoyed).

I see. I have one of those mounts that you can pull out but yes if you have a fixed mount it’s not feasible. Maybe just unplugging the hdmi on the XMC2 might work. And unplugging and replugging the tv. I agree it’s annoying - I stopped doing this and now just use my ATV4K. But by using ATV4K I had to give up HDMI/CEC input change because every time you press the home button on Apple TV it does a input change request on the XMC2 so the delay is annoying. This was one of the changes they made in one of the latest firmware but it would be nice to make this configurable. I’d rather do an input change and back to resync on my own. Thankfully I don’t change inputs that often so it’s not a big deal. With these little workarounds, I have been able to minimize the XMC2 limitations.

I don't use ARC/CEC, but I am curious, and don't mean to start anything here, but are all these issues due to the XMC or is it the HDMI spec, or ARC/CEC limitations, or a combination depending on equipment connected? I would not be able to tolerate unplugging on a daily basis to get things working....

I would not be able to tolerate unplugging on a daily basis to get things working.... It's a combination of how HDMI-ARC is implemented by the TV manufactures, how it's interpreted by the AVR/AVP manufacturers (along with how much effort they want to put into it) and, finally, HDMI.org's own fault for creating standards that they make no effort to certify or enforce. Admittedly, my RMC-1L has not been in my system for the past several weeks as I'm experimenting with the Auro-matic upmixer (via my AV8805 and liking it), but I have not had an issue using ARC between my LG CX and RMC-1L using the latest official firmware (v2.3). It has been reliable and stable. But prior to let's say v2.2, HDMI-ARC functionality was hit or miss (mostly a miss). On the other hand, HDMI-ARC has always been flawless on my AV8805. I do realize, however, that many (including myself) would prefer the markedly better sound quality of the RMC/XMC, but these days you'll have to pick your poison...

Almost don't want to mention it, don't want to jinx myself.
