Any tips or tricks for either Roku and/or Youtube TV? Thanks for the input! Not familiar with YouTube TV, in regard to the Roku, there are lots of "channels" with free content. Some are good, some not so much (old stuff or B-movies, but hey, it's free 😁). Notable ones, in no particular order (some already mentioned by others): - Peacock - The Roku channel - Pluto - Crackle - Tubi - Plex (which you can also use to stream your content over your home network - ESPN3 (part of the ESPN channel) - IMDbTV - Sling (they have some free content) - Popcorn Flix - Vudu (there is a free section) - CBS Sports (limited free live content, but they have tons on condensed game and highlights on demand) - Paramount+ (they have a library of free TV show episodes) - Red Bull TV (if you are into non-mainstream sports 😄) - NFL (Free game highlights) - History channel (they have some freebes) - Cartoons Plus (oldie and classic) - Xumo (Free movies and live TV) - Filmrise (same as above)

Previous to cutting the cord, we had DTV @ $160+/month for over 20 years- ENOUGH. We decided to go with YouTubeTV and Prime Video we're happy with them after trying most of the providers' free trials. I don't like the commercials with some feeds, but that's not YT TV, just like with cable or satellite. Like that I get more pro & college football games. (there a secret to getting 'out of area' games) We have cable internet to Linksys WRT3200ACM router (with vpn) and no issues streaming. I found 5mhz better than 2mhz wifi, but most everything is hardwired ethernet. I'm a Amazon Prime member and I have HD Music which complements it. Roku channel is not bad and most of what MusicHead has. ALSO- added Tablo TV DVR for over the air recording. (added my own 2.5" 500g HD) Everything I needed to cut the cable was paid for in 3 months of savings. Our monthly bill is about $80/mo and stream to 4 areas. If I "re-do" anything, I would get a NVIDIA SHIELD over Roku Ultra for the main area. We still use diy HTPC.

We cut the cable and home phone in 2008 except for internet, which we use for Netflix, Prime video, Roon, Tidal and Qobuz for entertainment. 100mbps down speed.

I recently cut the Comcast cord(internet/cable tv) and went with, MetroNet, the new fiber optic option in my neck of the woods. 5ooMbps up/500Mbps down with no data cap, added YouTube TV, no contracts meaning I can stop service without any penalties and MetroNet also paid for me to break my contract with Comcast. I'm also saving right at $85/month over Comcast, I've gained a few channels that I really wanted that Comcast doesn't have and I don't have the cable box and modem rental fee now that I'm using my own router, though most everything in my house is connected directly to an ethernet switch, and my ATV4K has taken over the cable box duties.

I cut my services.....what to do next? I can tell you what we did a few years ago after we got rid of DirectTv. We went to the Amazon Firestik 4K with HULU + live and have never looked back. We get all of our local channels plus everything else like the Golf channel and ESPN for less than $80.00 a month. We only have a 15 Meg WISP connection but everything works just fine.

I came home from work today, clicked on the YouTube TV app to find that the channels that are owned by Disney were nowhere to be found, along with a message from YouTube letting its subscribers know why. Below is directly from the YouTube TV website:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
An update to YouTube TV viewers about our negotiations with Disney.
Update as of 9 p.m. PT on 12/17/21:
We’ve held good faith negotiations with Disney for several months. Unfortunately, despite our best efforts, we’ve been unable to reach an equitable agreement before our existing one expired, and their channels are no longer available on YouTube TV. We will be decreasing our monthly price by $15, from $64.99 to $49.99 while this content remains off of our platform.
We know this is frustrating news for our customers, and not what we wanted. We will continue conversations with Disney to advocate on your behalf in hopes of restoring their content on YouTube TV. In the meantime, we’ll update this website soon with the latest updates, including channels impacted, alternative ways to continue enjoying some of Disney’s content on The Disney Bundle, information about our price decrease, plus any other questions you may have about this situation.
To our YouTube TV members:
In order to make 85+ channels available to you on YouTube TV, we partner with content owners, and from time to time, these deals need to be renewed to ensure we’re continuing to offer a strong lineup, at a competitive and fair price.
We’re now in negotiations with Disney to continue distributing their content on YouTube TV so you can continue watching everything from your favorite teams on ESPN to The Bachelor to Good Morning America. Our deal expires on Friday, December 17, and we haven't been able to reach an equitable agreement yet, so we wanted to give you an early heads up so that you can understand your choices.
Disney is an important partner for us and we’re in active conversations with them and working hard to keep their content on YouTube TV. Our ask to Disney, as with all our partners, is to treat YouTube TV like any other TV provider – by offering us the same rates that services of a similar size pay, across Disney's channels for as long as we carry them.
If Disney offers us equitable terms, we’ll renew our agreement with them. However, if we are unable to reach a deal by Friday, the Disney-owned channels will no longer be available on YouTube TV and we will decrease our monthly price by $15, from $64.99 to $49.99 (while this content remains off our platform).
We would love every member to stay with our service, but we give you the flexibility to pause or cancel your membership anytime. If you want to continue watching some of Disney’s content, you can consider signing up for their own service, The Disney Bundle, which they offer for $13.99/month.
We appreciate Disney’s partnership and will share any further updates as we have them.

As of an hour ago, I'm no longer a YouTube TV subscriber, and now a HULU Live TV subscriber(part of HULU's bundle with Disney+/ESPN+/HULU), and thus $8 cheaper a month. Being a big college football and college basketball fan, not having the ESPN channels for me wasn't acceptable, especially since it's Bowl Season.

I cut the cord with Youtube TV for a while. Went back to cable after they hiked the price to $65. Cost was a wash. With my TiVos, the picture quality is better, audio is 5.1, and I don't lose TV if the Internet goes out (don't have to worry about hitting my cap either). YTV was better when I was traveling for work regularly, however.
If you don't care about sports, I'd say you can save money. Otherwise, you're just going to be swapping one big company for a different one. You can already see Disney putting the screws to Google (sounds like they resolved that dispute today). Things are only going to get worse for sports fans as non-fans are no longer forced to subsidize the cost.
