I have, perhaps more accurate at this point is 'had', a pair of Emotiva Airmotiv4s monitors. They have been so fantastic for so long. However, the right monitor zapped out before the holidays. I took it into my local and trusted hi-fi shop. They had it on the bench and noted that the 'crossover' was fried. They looked for any type of comparable replacement and found none. I have spoken with two of the fine folks at Emotiva and they were unable to provide any definitive direction other than it was time to buy a new pair of monitors. I am reaching out to the forum for suggestions. Has anyone successfully dealt with this situation before? Is there a secondary parts market for the airmotiv4s? How do you deal with the epoxy coating? If there is no path to repair for the one monitor, is there anyone out there that has a single Airmotiv4s monitor to sell or wants to buy my single lonely monitor? I hate to see a monitor of this quality go to waste. I am currently using a pair of Vanatoo Transparent Zeros, but they just don't have the clean depth of the airmotiv4s. Any assistance would be much appreciated. Cheers, Mike

A cross over is a cross over, I’m not sure that I understand the no “comparable replacement” response. Personally I wouldn’t be concerned with the physical dimensions being an issue, if I had to mount a cross over externally then so be it. Since you have a working 4 then it should be easy to determine the cross over frequency and slope with a quick test. The 4’s have 2 x power amplifiers, one for each speaker, and as a result the cross over would be wired in directly after the input signal and before the power amps.
Without more information on why they believe there was no comparable replacement, that’s about as much as I can suggest.
Happy New Year Gary

The circuitry on the Airmotiv speakers is quite compact and includes two amplifiers and a rather complex electronic crossover and equalization network... Performing component level troubleshooting and repair on a powered speaker can be quite complex and entail a lot of labor... Therefore it is quite common, when repairing powered speakers and subwoofers, to simply replace the entire amp-plate assembly instead... And I have little doubt that this is what they're referring to when they say "they can't find a comparable replacement"...
We would be willing to share schematics with a repair shop if they were willing to attempt to repair one... But, at standard repair shop rates, the amount of time and labor involved would probably exceed the value of the unit itself.

Cheers, Mike If it's truly the crossover and not the amps, you could mail them to Danny Richie at GR Research and he'd build you a new, better sounding crossover with upgraded parts. Did you hook up a sub to your Vanatoos?

I did hook up the vanatoo to a psb sub. obviously better, but still muddy in the mid.
