Getting tired of waiting for the update and my spouse has given me the go-ahead to replace the XMC-2 if I wish.... I really love it but it's been a year now that I have been dealing with issues that I would just rather not deal with. I am not ready to jump ship just yet, but I think I may be getting there.
The McIntosh MX-100 is "only" 12 channels and I was really hoping to go 9.x.6 in the new house... and it does not have Dirac... Will I miss it that much?
I hate the "look" of the HTP-1 but honestly I care about how it all sounds... and can live with it being ugly.
So conflicted right now...

At this point I would say relax and hold off a bit longer to see if the next firmware update hits....unless you can get a super deal on the Mcintosh. Assuming it's the "MX-100"? $5K

And yes it's the MX-100 I meant - I have corrected the post, thanks!

If your not eventually satisfied there is another option that may suit better than the dated Mcintoshs audyssey ; the Anthem avm70 with its ARC genesis . It is due for a hdmi 2.1 board in the near future ;dts-x and its got E-ARC if you stream at all ?

Actually the Anthem AVM 90 looks much more interesting! Didnt want to suggest due to price but will suit those needing its independent multiple sub outputs

It was a matter of not knowing when. Hopefully my budget can be spent on a new bathroom instead of a new processor. Or speakers.... I could use new speakers...

It seems like 2.5 isn’t the big fix we were hoping for, but I’m sure we’ll hear more about it from one of the subwoofer maestros shortly.
I’m keeping my fingers crossed, but no matter the case I’m doing my initial miniDSP 88A setup this weekend.

I almost pulled the trigger on the HTP1 used but when j found out that the warranty wasn’t transferable I passed. Read too many issues about the boot loop that gave me pause. It’s a tough situation that we are in but the best course of action imho is to just not do anything for a while until HDMI 2.1 is released. I may have to bring my XMC2 back upstairs depending on how much the 20 amp lines are going to cost. I have my rack right next to the TV right now bc I need multiple HDMI cables to the tv and digital out to the old Theta Casanova. If multiple outlet locations are too much, then I’ll need to put the rack and XMC2 to the long term location and run 1 HDMI to the TV. Its been peaceful to not see the XMC2 as often 😂.

Or… MiniDSP, a UMIK mic, a couple extra interconnects and you can fine tune your bass as you wish. I’ve read that’s still not perfect and DLBC should be better, but for the time being it seems to solve many problems… Or Trinnov or StormAudio, if you happen to win the next Lotto draw.

I’m getting more and more interested in Trinnov. After I’m done paying for my kids college for the next few years, I won’t feel too bad about buying a Trinnov considering I’ll have spent over $250k (current estimate) for college tuition (2 kids). For now, the XMC2 will do. And while I think the MiniDSP is interesting, I’d rather just get DLBC on the XMC2 (when it happens? 😬).

I am in the same position myself and fortunate now to be able to consider alternatives. I am seriously considering a Trinnov altitude 16 to replace my RMC-1. Are there any regrets from the people who have changed already.
Please just delete if this is not appropriate for the board.
Regards
Stuart

I went from XMC-2 to Altitude 16 about a year ago(still have the XMC-2 as unable to sell it). The Alt16 is clearly overall better, as it should be at that price, but it still takes time to lock onto the audio signal, using Tidal Atmos tracks the 1st 3 secs are lost, very annoying, same with watching anything on ATV, sound takes about 5 secs, video about 2-3. Out of the box the XMC-2 takes some beating, once you start running the correction then it swings Alt16. Optimiser is much easier to use than Dirac. Due to hefty price rises my Alt 16 is worth more than I paid for it

I have bought one and I am looking forward to putting it through its paces shortly. Regards Stuart
