For me 3D was a gimmick I never thought would last and I was happy to see go away.

I had no idea 3D could be anything close to what it is on a JVC projector. The latest generation of 3D movies that were shot in 3D instead of reprocessed are truly amazing. Heck, even the older, reprocessed ones can be startling. Among the newer ones Dr. Strange is a standout. Anyway, from my perspective it is sad to see 3D decline just as it became so good.

Dune proves it hasn’t No, the fact that it has nearly totally disappeared and is no longer offered by any equipment manufacturers shows that it was. I wanted no part of the silly gimmick and I am very happy that phase in the industry is over.

The original Pirates of the Caribbean is also on the way! The original Predator reprocessed in 3D along with its revamped lossless audio is tremendous Ear and Eye candy if you get the chance.

We enjoyed 3D very much when it was done right which wasn't always the case. I've since moved on to a newer TV that doesn't have 3D but that's because it is no longer a choice. We miss it.

My wife and I once again enjoyed TRON LEGACY in 3D the other evening. The audio on that one is particularly bombastic ( in the BEST possible way!)

Thanks, I will definitely pick up a copy of both 3D discs. Don’t hesitate to buy some older, remastered discs. Even Titanic is good on the right equipment. Interestingly, the blacks are inky on most 3D discs. And the grain structure is very smooth, so even though they are not 4K, they are usually visually impressive.

Christian Bale… I’ve even got 2 music performances shot in 3D. Those are novel but hardly worth the effort

View AttachmentBoth my tv's are OLED. I LOVED 3d but I must confess sincve 4k-blu-rays I haven't bothered with it. I know. It's sad, but the idea of putting on glasses and having to deal with ghosting effects and dim output has turned me off. I think 3d still has substantial promise. Perfhaps it will make a comback when much brighter tvs are available on the market. An 8k 3d microled capable of 2000 nits output? Hey oh!

For me, surround sound worked while 3D sputtered. Everyone enjoyed the surround, 3D was not as seamless.

Curious, since this thread got underway, I went through my collection to get a count and I’ve got 25 3D so far, with Dune on the way soon (as soon as I can “steal” a copy for the right price!)

Watching a 3D movie on a TV is much different than on a projector! With a projector they are much more immersive for sure. I love watching them on our projector and the 115" screen.

Where did you hear the original Pirates of the Caribbean is on the way? I haven't been able to find any information on a 3D version. Given Disney's waning support for 3D,it seems unlikely. They were reportedly going to release the first 4 in a box set in like 2014, but it never happened AFAIK. It would be nice if the industry would do 4K 3D (That would give an actual purpose to 8K sets as you could have full resolution 4K Passive 3D on them. I've got 263 3D Blurays so I'm not buying another projector that doesn't support 3D.
