Hi guys, is there a way to increase gain in this preamp? I have it coupled to a basx a300 and I need to get it to around 40 on the screen to get some decent sound levels. Mind you, I use dcm time windows 1a which are notoriously power hungry, but I believe the a300 150 watts on 8 ohm should have been enough??? Thank you

There is no way to change the gain on the PT1... other than the obvious way... which is to turn up the Volume.
I assume you do understand that, with values not given in dB, the number on the display is pretty much just an arbitrary reference number... (The numbers could have been programmed so that, with that exact same gain, the display read "14" or "114".)
With some vintage gear the distortion actually increased somewhat linearly with gain, or at least was far higher at higher gain settings, so there was a good reason to "not want to turn them up too high". However, with most modern gear, including the PT1, as long as you can reach the output level you want before "running out of range on the knob", the distortion will remain very low... So it really doesn't MATTER if the Volume reads "20" or "40" when it's playing at the level you prefer.
With units that show the Volume setting in dB, the value in -dB is a specified ratio below a fixed reference level (usually a gain of 1.0).

^^^What he said. Your problem happens when you can't turn it up high enough.

Actually, there is a potential advantage to turning up the volume on a preamp - Preamps (usually) use an analog stereo potentiometer with a logarithmic taper. The lower parts of the volume range are where the two stereo pots are likely to have the largest volume difference. In other words, as you turn up the volume, the channel-to-channel tracking becomes better. So, other issues notwithstanding, turning up the volume usually ensures better channel balance.

Thank you for all your responses, I really appreciate it. I have another question, previously, when I was ysing the pt-100, the profile on Tidal would clearly indicate "pt-100". With ny current pt1, the profile comes up as "SXWP32768-M4549", Could you please explain why? Was this a prototype? Would there be further firmware updates for this model?
Kind regards,

Yes, I guess you are right. The emotiva tech support was very helpful in addressing my query. I love the pt1, so neutral with just a touch of warmth to avoid any nastiness. Is there any other preamplifier on the market with all these options??? I mean, great dac, bluetooth, coaxial, usb, line, good phono preamp with mm AND mc access, useable fm tuner!! Love it, glad I bought mine before the price increases

Absolutely! I have the pt1 connected with the basx a-300 and yes, I am happy!! Running a pair of "vintage" DCM time windows 1a, which are notoriously power hungry, play really well together. I found the preamp takes at least 45min-1 hour to settle in. Thank you
