I recently purchased the ERC-4 disc play, and love the dynamic sound. However, the display screen occasionally glitches, leaving a garble of digital symbols. Has anyone else encountered this?

If you purchased this directly from Emotiva, hopefully you've already called customer support and getting a Return Authorization for a replacement. I don't own an ERC-4 but I've not read of this being a problem.

I would bet dollars to donuts you are unintentionally zapping the player with static electricity especially this time of year when interiors have very low humidity and with carpeted floors. It might be so small you don’t notice it while touching the player or inserting a disc. I have the ERC-4 and this has happened to me on numerous occasions. A quick turn off then back on will cure the issue. You do not need to flip the power switch at the back of the player, just from the remote hit the standby button, then back on.

Thanks for the input. I have contacted Emotiva, and they suggested powering down and restarting the player after 10 minutes. Never thought of static discharge as the culprit, but who knows? My Sanus audio stand is standing on a hardwood floor, but the frame is metal.

Now for the rest of the story ... I requested a replacement of the ERC-4, which arrived without incident. It is playing splendidly, without any front screen glitching. I am ever so pleased with the musicality of this CD player.

I am ever so pleased with the musicality of this CD player. Nice to read that Emo. Took care of you on this. The very few incidents I’ve experienced regarding display issues were ALWAYS because of a real problem with the component rather than an outside issue. I’m thinking more and more myself about bringing a CD player back into the system for a different reason. Ever since I got into HDMI, I’ve had a problem with what has been referred to as a “clocking” issue that results in too short of a time space between some tracks, or the first second of a musical piece being loped off. I don’t know if this issue is specific to Emotiva, or shows up with other manufacturers. This company was aware of it and provided firmware updates that addressed the issue, however to a much smaller extent it still exists. Life’s too short and the ANSWER lies in RCA connection….be it digital coaxial or the latter. I wonder if both a digital coaxial cable AND an HDMI can be connected to THE SAME PLAYER, then selecting either/or depending on what’s loaded in the machine?
