I have an XMC-1 that predated the 4K HDMI card. I had no problems with my video display until after I set the unit back to Emotiva to have the upgraded 4K HDMI board installed. For the first few days everything worked fine but then the screen display would become jumbled. The audio would still pay fine. I just powered off the XMC-1 in the back and then powered it back on and it was working properly again. This would only happen once or twice a month at first but now it is happening every few hours or less. Here is my setup: Source 1 - Roku Ultra (HDMI for Audio and Video into the XMC-1) Source 2 - Media PC (USB for Audio and HDMI for Video into the XMC-1) HDMI out 1 goes to a Samsung 82" 4K TV HDMI out 2 goes to a Hisence 50" 4K TV on Zone 2 When the picture goes out it is identical on both TVs so I don't believe the TVs are defective. I have another Roku Ultra in my basement system. I switched them out and the problem did not move with the Roku Ultra. We don't use the computer very often but I recall it happens with that source as well. It seems to happen at the same frequency if just the main TV is on or just the zone 2 TV is on or both. I found that while the screen is jumbled, if I change the source it will then come back on but then the screen will periodically cut to no signal on both tvs and the sound will cut off and back on with the picture. I can also unplug the Roku and plug it back in and will get the same result as changing the source on the XMC-1. Rebooting the XMC-1 will work for a while but then it will happen again. The unit is well ventilated with fans and none of the components are overheating. I unplugged the Zone 2 HDMI cable and only left the main TV plugged in and still got the jumbled screen. I then reversed it and only plugged in the Zone 2 and still got the jumbled screen. Thank you in advance for any suggestions on how to trouble shoot this before I reach out to Emotiva to have the defective XMC-1 repaired. I have a 5.1 system in this room and do not wish to upgrade to Dolby Atmos.

You don’t mention HDMI cables and if you upgraded them to 4K certified ones when you had the board updated? I know it’s a common culprit, but most 4K troubleshooting should start there. It’s also good you’re trying just one TV at a time as that will reduce possible interactions. Here’s a thread with cables that have been used successfully with the 4K boards. emotivalounge.proboards.com/post/1002487/thread

I did replace all of the HDMI cables with 4K at the same time I did the board upgrade. Here is what I am using from the XMC-1 to the Main TV: HDMI Cable (4K 60Hz, HDCP 2.2, HDR, 18Gbps) with Braided Cord, 8 Feet (2.4 Meter)And the same but shorter from the Roku to the XMC-1 and from the Media PC to the XMC-1: HDMI Cable (4K 60Hz, HDCP 2.2, HDR, 18Gbps) with Braided Cord, 2 FeetFor the longer run from the XMC-1 to the Zone 2 TV I am using this one: KabelDirekt – 25ft HDMI cable – 4K HDMI cord (HDMI to HDMI cable – 4K@60Hz for a stunning Ultra HD experience, High Speed with Ethernet – Blu-ray/PS4/PS5/Xbox Series X/Switch, black)They are all listed as 4K HDMI cables. The first two would be fairly easy to replace but I would need to remove and re-mount the 82" TV. The 25' one to the outdoor bar can be replaced also but it would take a lot more time.

So with that I’d say we can assume the cables aren’t the problem (but it’s not certain). I’d start by setting the Standby to Low Power, then power the XMC-1 down and turn off the rear switch, also power off your other components and disconnect all the HDMI cables at the XMC. Then just plug the HDMI cable to your main TV into HDMI 2 Out, this isn’t really considered ‘Zone 2’, but is rather the primary output, also just plug in the Roku to whatever HDMI in you have designated for it. Power everything back on as usual and see what you have with both HD and UHD programming.

That sounds familiar to my issues. I got a defective HDMI 2.0 bd and it was repaired by Emotiva. Sony X800 Bluray to Sony TV works perfect without XMC in the path. Have "some" sync issues with them when adding the XMC. My first Roku Ultra had tiny white dots intermittently, so bought Zeskit Cinema Plus 4K 18ghz 16ft cable- didn't improve. Returned the Roku for replacement. Now the replacement Roku won't sync at all, but works direct connect. #3 HDMI TV is HDMI ARC and it is a disaster with XMC (input suggested by Sony for connecting a receiver or pre/pro). Other cables are 4ft, 4K HDMI Cable, 18Gbps HDMI 2.0 Cable - 3D, 2160P, Ethernet 28AWG Braided I'm tired of using toslink out to XMC. So I just ordered a NVIDIA Shield Android TV Pro 4K HDR Streamer because it's quality made. If that doesn't work, I may down-grade to HDMI 1.4 bd and cuss every night.

When you had the defective HDMI 2.0 bd was it added as in upgrade to an older XMC-1? Where you getting the same kind of jumbled picture and after it was sent back to Emotiva for repair did that fix the problem? Thanks for your help.

I bought the XMC-1 gen 1 from a lounger and it was upgrade by the previous owner. HDMI bd had solder issues that Keith discovered via emails. The board seem to work good for a short time, then issues as you described and the Ultra never worked correctly. I have 3 other Roku units but they are all mounted & direct wired on other 1080p TVs, including an old Roku 3- they work perfect. I want a brand new board, b/c this one's not cuttin it.
I'll let you know how the NVidia Shield does when it arrives,

OK - I think I have it fixed. . . Maybe
AudioHTIT offered very good advice. I unplugged everything and rebooted everything. It ran fine for about two hours with just the HDMI in from the Roku Ultra and the HDMI out to the main TV. I then turned everything off and plugged the Zone 2 TV into the HDMI Out 2. It has been running for almost two more hours with no problems or the picture going out. The only other thing I have not plugged back in is the HDMI In from the media PC.
I strongly suspect the media PC is the problem. More correctly, I am the problem : ) I upgraded my homes electrical system to have 3 panels to accommodate stuff like a hot tub, electric brewery, Tesla charger, whole house generator and so on. I have everything in the home theater system on a power conditioner on an outlet on electric panel 1, except the media PC. The media PC is on an outlet that is fed by panel 2. All three electric panels are behind the same electric meter but I suspect there is an electrical imbalance between the two panels that was flowing through the HDMI cable from the computer to the HDMI board in the XMC-1.
I will leave the media PC disconnected for a while and see if that fixes it. If so, I will just plug the media PC in to the same power conditioner that the rest of the system is on.
Thanks everybody for your help with this - especially AudioHTIT with that spot on suggestion. I will keep you posted.

rdavidw, good find. Make sure all the panel cases are grounded together- daisy chain a ground wire or use medal conduit across the three cases. I fought that problem when I was a electronics technician (customers adding a sub-panel incorrectly), it can drive digital electronics nuts.

rdavidw, good find. Make sure all the panel cases are grounded together- daisy chain a ground wire or use medal conduit across the three cases. I fought that problem when I was a electronics technician (customers adding a sub-panel incorrectly), it can drive digital electronics nuts. Awesome! I am not an electrician, hired a company that had good reviews. The original panel that came with the house is in the garage. They added a panel next to that one and it looks to share a common ground. The third panel is in the basement and is a sub-panel from #2 and appears to be grounded to the second panel. I had a small buzzing sound in my basement system which had an HDMI in from my office computer. Same thing, it was on a different panel. Once I moved my office computer to the an outlet that was on the same panel the buzzing stopped. I should have remembered that when I was having video problems in my living room system. In my living room system, I have two outlets each from a different panel. Outlet 1 is on this power conditioner: Furman M-8Dx Merit Series Power ConditioningOutlet 2 is on a battery back up and had the following on it: Media PC Smartthings Hub Ethernet switch IR repeater I just moved the media PC to outlet 1 on the power conditioner. My security closet where my router and switch is also runs off the same panel as outlet 2. I have a NAS in the security closet that is the storage for the 6 PCs in the house. That NAS is on a battery backup so I really don't need to have the dedicated Media PC on a battery back up as well. I have ethernet cables going from that switch to a smaller switch next to the XMC-1 that then goes to: Media PC XMC-1 Roku Ultra Smartthings Hub I have not plugged in the HDMI from the Media PC to the XMC-1 yet but all of the ethernet cables are still plugged in and powered from panel 2. Perhaps the ethernet cables are better protected or that its not going directly into the XMC-1 HDMI board. The Furman power conditioner recommended running it straight from an outlet and not behind anything else such as a battery backup. If I still have problems I will unplug all of the Ethernet cables and run the Roku from WiFi to test it. If that fixes it I will move the power conditioner onto the same panel as the router and then run the battery backup out of the power conditioner. Thanks again for the help!

The NVidia Shield works with XMC and I can now use the XMC inputs and pass to Sony tv. Finally I removed the HDMI bd, cleaned it with circuit bd cleaner & De-Ox It on connectors. Roku Ultra still doesn't work with XMC, waste of $
