I own a xpa5 1st gen and I always ran it with rca cables since I got it but I used to have errors because of dusting, cat rubs on cords etc etc.... I recently purchased Monoprice XLR Male to RCA Male Cable - 1.5 Feet and now I have no more errors. Unfortunatly since I installed the 5 cables when I power down I get nasty noises out of some of my speakers couple seconds after everything is off which lasts for a sec or two...
I probably will re-install the rca to avoid nasty noises like the power drains through the xlr cables and not the rca
Any ideas?
EDIT I just troubleshooted this and the cables are all good, the problem is channel 4. When I switch that to balanced and use xlr I get ton of noise after shutdown....At the moment i have everything using the xlr except channel 4 and I have zero noise...
Is this a problem with my amp?

Did you try swapping out the channel 4 cable with another XLR to see if it follows the cable or stays with the channel?

I have the same thing with one of the channels on my XPA-5 gen 1, so I switched that channel to RCA and moved it to driving one of the low-info channels like the surrounds in a 7.1 setup.

Yea, we seem to have the same problem, I also just used rca cables on that particular channel to remedy the situation.... Yes it follows the channel and not the cable...

A little electronic noise in one or more channels... only right at shutdown... is common in older XPA-5 Gen1 amps. The only way to stop it is to change some small signal transistors. But, since it is totally harmless, and is NOT a sign of any worse sort of problem, it really isn't worth worrying about.

Mine is somewhat loud and not a pleasant sound as it's a screeching zap. I don't think it would blow a speaker but not something I want to test, either.
